I have played a bit of Akai Katana, and it is definitely my favorite Cave hori, followed by DS2 (Whoever is taking Mike's shmup card can now have mine too )

lulz. I def *like* DS2, but the first game is way better in my opinion in pretty much every way.

It probably is, I just thought DS2 was cool. It was so over-the-top compared to the first, and the scoring was actually refined to be a bit more to my taste.

I hadn't realized my taste in shmups was so revolting until now!

I'l just go sit in a corner hug my framed Muchi Pork flyer.

you are probably right as far as substance, I was talking more about execution. IE: QT does the whole 'bits-n-pieces of my favorite shit = new film." Y'know? But yeah Lollipop would feel more like Rodriguez film, while No More Heroes would feel like a QT film.

It doesn't suck. It's just.... weird. Definitely a "walkthrough required" type of RPG, which does drag it down.

You gonna try FFIII? That one is harder than shit! Maybe best to move on to IV.
