FRANCES HA

Just go see it.

edit* I guess it's about time to give my actual thoughts on Star Trek Into Darkness.
At first I thought, "Man, this is exceeding my expectations", and then about an hour in I realized how lazy the writing was. I get it, it's sci-fi. That doesn't give it an excuse to not make sense.

It's not really the third act that is entirely stupid, it's the last twenty minutes that make the movie almost "Dark of The Moon" Bay-bad. I admit I'm being tough on the movie, but it was building up to be something great and quickly turned to nonsensical crap.

So...Everyone is immortal now? I mean, we've got magic blood and a Kahn on ice. That makes Picard a super asshole in Generations, but I guess there are alternate timelines and universes, galaxies, etc. Did the last twenty minutes ruin the movie? For me it did.

Other than that it was pretty great. ;)

Just got back from Star Trek: Into Darkness. AWESOME! I loved it! Much better than the first one. More emotion and meaning behind all that fabulous action, which made it all mean so much more than it did in the first film, IMO. If you've been questioning whether to go see it or not, definetly go see it!

When it's out on disc. Y'know I've been thinking many scifi franchises are lagging behind real science. They fail to incorporate simple tech as nanotechnology, drones and bionic augmentation. And let's not kid ourselves here.. on paper scifi might be about people and their prospective problems but on blockbuster film it's all about pew-pew.

Black Sunday (1960) - Directed by Mario Bava, this gothic horror masterpiece provides everything you would hope for in a classic, period horror: inky black-and-white photography, stunning scenery, candelabras, a crypt, vampires, a castles, terrible dubbing, trapdoors, a witch burning, crucifixes, secret passageways, heaving bodices, and - of course - the beautiful Barbara Steele. I have read many classic vampire stories, and no film - not even the classics of the silent era - has captured gothic horror as well as this one. It is currently available for streaming on Netflix, and I highly recommend it to anyone with taste in classic horror films (i.e., Ack and Noise.)

^I've seen Black Sunday before on the Drive-In channel... its on a lot, but the movie is good. For 60's-70's horror movies, for me it is up there with Black Sabbath and that one I can't remember right now. (One dude falls in love with a tree, there's a cannibal luau, some other stuff...)

Saw Iron Man 3. It was good, but I didn't feel any oomph in it. I dunno.

THE PHANTOM MENACE

Hey, I was ironing clothes for the week and it was on tv. Thought "Eh, why not?".

And then a terrible, terrible thought came to mind (and no it wasn't 'dear God I'm watching The Phantom Menace'): "Lens flares could definitely be used in this movie".

I know the JJ and lens flare thing has been beaten to death, but the super shiny ships, the lightsaber battles...they almost call for a flare.
