Surely they can't be THAT bad... can they?
Yes...they...can.

So the Wii one is better? I have to try that out. Though no Classic controller is a major downer. The gamecube controller is nice, but its d-pad is not, and I don't own a Horri Controller :(.

I loved how SNK had the audacity to sell the Metal Slug games on the virtual console for 7-8€ (EACH) when you could get the Anthology for 12-20€ brand new.

from what I've heard (not experienced myself) the SNK Collection is better on Wii too thanks to some slowdown issues on PS2 as well.

Didn't they also do MS Anthology in PSP?

I can vouch for the Wii version, though. All ports are solid, actually I would dare say as good if not better than the NGCD versions.

Yeah I think the ports are fine too, and most of the SNK/Playmore PS2 compilations are pretty good alternatives to the AES/MVS originals in my opinion if you have to play a port. The PS2 compilation is what I used to play through the MS series, and I found the presentation and emulation to be worth playing through the whole thing (plus the little "trophies" and stuff are fun).

What I want to do at some point is compare the PS2 ports to MAME versions and see what I think.

Actually 5 & 6 (I believe? Two of them anyway?) got standalone dual-pack release on PS2 which is supposed to be way better than the versions on the PS2 comp.

I was looking forward to, but ending up avoiding that anthology as not only were they missing extra features, but apparently had terrible input lag.

Is that the same as the PS2 version and the only problem?

I think the PS2 lag issues were mostly in the PAL version, actually

Some of those video quality comparisons seem a bit iffy to me, like using modded s-video out on the Neo Geo and comparing it side by side with component video output on the Ps2 (and naturally claiming the Ps2 looks "more colorful".)

Secondly, claiming the Ps2 version represents the resolution "more accurately", when it's rendering 240p games at 480i. That's not "more accurate" in the slightest.

Oh yeah for reference that's my chosen video region, but I'm betting I can play imports.
