Except we don't know this yet.
Yes we do. Xbox Live costs money. Having a Steam account does not. Fact.
I play games and buy them on the 360 now, and do so without Live.

You do realize that this model is the inevitable future, right? PC has gone that way, Xbox is going this way, and it's only a matter of time before Nintendo and Sony follow suit. There's just too much benefit for companies to do this, and the fact that Steam hasn't crashed and burned, and in fact has been massively successful, tells me that models like GOG will be the outlier, rather than the norm.
Meaning less rational reasons to buy a console. Except for those fabled exclusives. Heck I waited till 2012 till I got the PS3 exclusives, as many games already get Windows and multi-console releases.

At least with Steam you can download a cracked version of the game to put on a disc.

Of course I'm sure hackers will put extra effort into circumventing Microsoft's tactics.

1) like 7 or 8 call of duties in 6 years?
2) 4 Assassin Creed
3) 3 Gears of Wars
4) Not sure how many Resident Evil's
5) 3 Bioshocks
6) 3 Forzas
7) 3 Uncharted
I feel like every generation is like this more or less tbh. I just think the explosion of the indie market and casual games have just naturally taken out the "need" to buy these "triple A titles".

I mean I'm thinking of every generation back to the 8 bit era, and I can think of quite a few "killer ips" that had a ton of sequels with in one generations life time. Also, the 360/PS3 era has been going on since 2005, and is still going strong for at least another year.

Yeah, that's true, but the fact that it isn't a new practice doesn't make it any less irritating. I would argue that it's definitely worse now though, some franchises even run on a schedule now.

Mega Man 1-6, DKC 1-3, Street Fighter II and all its iterations, MK1-3, Sonic 1-Knuckles, Thunder Force II-IV, plus spinoffs. Yeah, that is nothing new.

I like XBL and it has always cost money. You can use that argument against 360, nothing new with the XB1. Steam and Xb1 offers a different experience. Many multiplats and certain genres I get for steam, others for console

Then only play the first game. Why restrict extra options? Especially if other fans of the series want more?

To access the same features that you get on Steam you do need to pay for Live.

8 Bit Era

1) 3 Super Mario Bro games (four if you include Doki Doki)
2) A zillion Megaman games
3) 3 Final Fantasys
4) A couple of Dragon Warriors
5) 3 Sonic games
6) 3 or 4 Alex Kid games
7) 3 or 4 Wonderboy games
8 ) 3 Phantasy Star games

16 Bit Era

1) 5 Sonic games
2) 3 Megman X games
3) A billion versions of Street Fighter 2
4) 3 Mortal Kombat games
5) 3 Final Fantasy games
6) 3 or 4 Bonk games
7) A few Dragon Warrior games I'm sure
8 ) 3 Streets of Rage games

32/64 Bit

1) 3 Resident Evil games
2) 3 Crash Bandicoot games
3) 3 Spyro the dragon games
4) Like four AKI Wrestling games, more if you include Japanese wrestling (and no these are not yearly titles like Madden)
5) 3 Shining Force Games
6) 3 Final Fantasy games
7) 3 Tekken Games
8 ) Quite a few Virtua Fighters (pretty sure VF2 at the very least was a killer ip)

128 bit era

1) 3 Grand Theft Auto games
2) 3 Resident Evil games
3) Like 5 Sonic games including multiplat
4) 3 Final Fantasy games (notice a pattern ;)?)
5/6/7) If you want to include these as killer ips (I wouldn't call them that, but they are certainly famous titles) take into account the Jak, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper games.
8 ) Devil May Cry

I'm lazy this gen because I dont want to think about any more sequels. :(

But I mean, this is a pretty common cycle, a lot of these series would time a sequel every 2 years, and keep in mind that all of these generations except for the last one are not of equal length of this one.
