Just got Pokemon Silver for the first time
I haven't played pokemon since red and blue. I recently got a Silver version and I gotta say, it rules. Anything I should know about this game? I last played Pokemon when I was about 12 and it was the Red version. Seems like the game is still the same ish but now there is a clock and a lot different Pokemon. I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I'm going to have to get use to the new Pokemon. I have no idea what these new Pokemon are all about. It's funny I say this because they are old by now, but to me they are new

It's all downhill from there. Gold/silver are the best in series for sure. It's such a good game. Also they had remakes on the DS that you should check out.brainerdrainer wrote:I haven't played pokemon since red and blue. I recently got a Silver version and I gotta say, it rules. Be sure to check out Pokemon Crystal. It's probably the best Gen II game.

+1 For Pokemon Crystal.
I too stopped playing pretty early on in the series. I've never played Ruby/Emerald or anything past that. Actually, I just started playing the series again for myself. I plan on going all the way through to the latest Black/White versions. Should be fun.

Just be warned that the save battery is going in most old copys of Gold or Silver (even moreso than Red, Blue or Yellow). Replacing the battery isn't really expensive, but it helps if you can solder.brainerdrainer wrote:I haven't played pokemon since red and blue. And whilst Gold and Silver are definitely amazing games, and possibly amongst my favourites inb the series, I do think that all the later games are worth playing too. Diamond & Pearl are probably the weakest entries in the series, but they're still good.

Yeah I'm loving it so far. I did replace the battery and it works great. I'll have to try some other versions out too

You are in for quite the ride, speaking of ride, get the bicycle as soon as possible because it speeds of the game.
When you finish Silver, I recommend you get Emerald because it combines the best elements of Ruby and Saphire, but adds a lot to it.
Have fun!

Re: Just got Pokemon Silver for the first time
Crystal is the best one out of the 2nd Gen games. A few bug fixes and a small story around Suicune. It also has the Battle Tower.
Funny enough though it's the most expensive of the bunch so be mindful if you don't have it and want to search for it.
While I second the remakes 100 percent, the remakes have all of the updated mechanics from up to that point so it might be confusing for some. Natures, abilities, Physical/Special split, and Pokemon you've never seen before post-game. Lots of stuff!

Crystal, Heartgold, and SoulSilver improve on it drastically. Also, not enough love for gen 3 here :<
