Simple. Elegant. Efficient. Innovative.

I would love to see Apple do for consoles what they did for phones.
It would be horrible and yeah what zero said. Inferior specs but look it has a shiny cover and is $200 more than their competitors. But you will be cool if you have the apple console! Haha

While many think that what Microsoft is doing for the Xbox One isn't a whole lot different than what PC services such as Steam do, I think the biggest difference boils down to track record.

Steam: PC games I bought on Steam back in 2003 I can still download, install, and play on my PC today if I choose to. On top of this, Steam has made moves to allow some games purchased on one platform (PC for example) to work on others with out an additional purchase (Linux, Mac).

Xbox: "If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards,"
Since my digitally purchased games on Microsoft's current console will not work on their next version, I have no reason to believe that they won't follow suit again if they release a 4th. At least on the 360 there are games that are entirely disc based and require no online activation. This appears not to be true for the Xbox One.

I recently bought the original Xbox as a used console. A lucky extra, it has extra Halo Multiplayer Maps installed in the Hard Drive, download purchased by the previous owner. The multiplayer maps were designed for online play which no longer work since Live went away some time ago for the original Xbox. The multiplayer maps also can be used for offline split screen play. As it turned out I traded the Xbox in to get a different model with a better disc reader inside. I could not backup those Halo maps over to the other console, probably locked to the console anyways.

The rub is I could not buy those multiplayer maps today even for split screen play since Live is no available to buy the files on the original Xbox! The same scenario will take place on the 360 as the XboxOne takes over. At least the 360 disc based games should still work, just a loss of online gameplay.

Will ANY of the XboxOne's games still work as support is dropped when an XboxTwo comes out maybe years later?

Apple's model for everything else wouldn't work for a console, and they know it. Which is probably why they haven't jumped into that war. I'm fully expecting the next version of apple tv to take on Ouya though, but a ps4 competitor isn't happening anytime soon.

You know you could just buy the Halo Multiplayer Map Pack disc, right?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... apparently

Hm....now we are starting to get a clearer picture. It seems Microsoft wants to just control the second hand market, take a cut from the profits and give some of it to the publishers too.....so yeah, basically kill off the used games market.

Let's wait for more updates. (btw I think (personal speculation here) that 35 pound activation fee would probably be for second hand sales/trades among consumers who don't go through retailers who would give MS and the publishers their cut (so for sales/trades on racketboy/ebay ect., you would also have to buy an activation license from xbox live).

You know, for the first time in my life I want a console to really really FAIL. I have NEVER felt like that before, seriously. I mean I always thought of being a fanboy as something fun. You could argue about which was better, you could defend your (less popular) choice, and you could teach your friends about the special games of other systems.

Even if I didn't like some console's policies (Xbox Live, censored NES/SNES games, ect.) I always wanted all of them to succeed enough to have a viable userbase (20-40 million sales for a console are not that bad) so the people who bought them will get at least some games on it.

But this piece of SHIT? Oh no, I want this to bomb HARD. This thing HAS to fail. These policies are BULLSHIT. Why not just go completely digital distribution Microsoft? At least then costs will be lower and there would be a chance games would be priced low enough to make up for them not being resellable.

Yup PS4 and/maybe Wii U it is for me, thanks for making that easy for me.
