Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?

I only play fighting games with a D-pad!

Ooh, and with few exceptions, I generally prefer playing fighting games with the analog.

Nintendo was morally right to take the advertising revenue of let's play videos of their games.

How so? They didn't create the videos.ZeroAX wrote:Nintendo was morally right to take the advertising revenue of let's play videos of their games.

Me too. I grew up with NES, SNES, and Genesis. So a D-pad feels much more natural and intuitive to me than a joystick.sosoyo180 wrote:I only play fighting games with a D-pad!

The "creators" of those videos hardly put any effort in their videos to make them something unique. This is gray legal area, so let's not talk about it legally ok?o.pwuaioc wrote:How so? So morally I think:
Simply put, something like a Yugioh Abridged episode takes a LOT of effort to make, even though he is using a shit ton of footage of the anime, making it very hard for him to profit off of it legally.
On the other hand, let's players have been putting the most minimum effort possible into making crappy videos, and making money off of it.
Nintendo did not take down their videos, they just took away their ad revenue. If they wanted to do this for fun, they shouldn't mind/complain.
If they wanted to make money, they should have gotten a real job, or put real EFFORT into their videos, like a lot of other youtubers who work very hard and have very little success.
Now if this was done to Yugioh The Abridged series, the company would have probably been legally right (I mean he just adds voice overs and some slight edits, I can't see any US judge giving him the case to have the right to monetize that) to take his ad revenue, but morally he puts a lot of effort in those videos, makes his (pretty much) own stuff out of the original content, and deserves some reward for it. Specially compared to lazy let's play videos.
I pretty much said the same thing in the thread about this too.

From my perspective, the issue is the difference between what the youtuber is creating and what the copyright holder originally produced. A video game is substantially different from a video clip. To say Nintendo should get money from video game let's plays is akin to saying Gibson should receive revenue from musicians who play Gibson guitars in songs. At least, that's how I see it.

Do you really think let's plays have any creative value? I think porn should be considered art before let's plays are.DinnerX wrote:From my perspective, the issue is the difference between what the youtuber is creating and what the copyright holder originally produced. Not really, but I don't think creative value is the issue. I simply don't think that morally Nintendo owns every combination of images and noise a game can possibly produce. Similarly I don't think Gibson owns every sound one of their guitars can make.ZeroAX wrote:Do you really think let's plays have any creative value? Ok I agree on this. It's just that I think that people who do let's plays themselves shouldn't complain.DinnerX wrote: Not really, but I don't think creative value is the issue. If this happened to video reviewers, video walkthroughs/guides, or anything that takes effort, I would be very much against nintendo.
I guess I just don't have sympathy for people wanting to get payed for something that should be done for free out of enjoyment. Specially since it takes zero effort (once you have the proper equipment I guess)
