Missed opportunities in game adaptations...

Post by REPO Man »

Did you ever see a movie/show/etc and thought that it'd make a great game, but one never came out?

Post them here. Tell us what kind of game it'd be. And whether or not a game adaptation would be possible even now.

Image

THEN: A console platformer, a la Batman. And an adventure game on the PC, a la King's Quest and the like.

NOW: A downloadable stealth-action game, a la Batman: Arkham Asylum. And possibly a hacked version of the NES Batman game.

Image

THEN: NES action game.

NOW: XBLA/PSN/eShop game, possibly Metroidvanian(?) in gameplay.

Image

THEN: SNES/Genesis action-adventure/sim-strategy game, enmeshing games like Flashback with Populous-lite elements. Basically, you'd play as Bud or Doyle as you fix the Bio-Dome in the span of 9 months, which basically puts you right after they thrash the Bio-Dome. You'd also have minigames that figure into the goal of achieving homeostasis, which puts you in the shoes of the other Bio-Dome denizens.

Ironically, a game too smart, complicated and unappealing to the standard Bio-Dome fan.

NOW: Are you serious? Make the game it could have been, but WITHOUT the Bio-Dome license.

Image

THEN: A 16-bit action game.

NOW: A current-gen action game.

back then a 2d adventure game. Kinda Like Secret Of Monkey Island. Find Clues and magic to defeat evil and rescue the golden child.

Now an action adventure game with a mix of Tomb Raider exploring and Uncharted action with a dash of magic thrown in as Eddie fights his way through supernatural hardships to be the chosen one that rescues the golden child.

Dont forget the magical boss battles!

Don't hotlink from Amazon.com, since it never works. Next time, just hotlink from Wikipedia.

Disappointed they didn't do an update of Matrix Path of Neo for a modern console. It had potential but was hindered by the hardware. Not that they couldn't have made a good matrix game on the ps2, but they tried to push it further than it could go.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Ideally, it's be a 32-Bit era title that recalled an older movie (like Evil Dead). Racing Stages with an Alien Trilogy-Style FPS and cutscenes from the movie itself- would have been excellent, with the great variety of characters, cars, and weapons used throughout. Imagine exploring that psychedelic circus tent with all of those hanging cotton candy corpses- *shudder*

Super Mario Bros: The Movie: The Game

Then: A dark beat-em-up in the style of Batman Returns; can you imagine what Konami could have done with it? Spectacular. It's a shame the movie flopped...

Now: A sandbox adventure... that has you playing as Bob Hoskins. Get him while he's still alive to do the voice. Would re-create the movie's intended ending, with the T-Rex battle on a bridge, with Super Scopes.

On another note, had it been conceived earlier, I think the final destination series would have made an incredibly entertaining FMV series.
