Which port? And yes, I can recommend it. It's more platform and action than adventure, but there are a few simple puzzles. The SNES port has the best music.Ack wrote:Speaking of which, I recently acquired Gods. It will probably be after the summer challenge that I can get to it, but do you recommend it?

I can attest to the fact that the VB Wario game is awesome. Easily the best game on the console. I do own the VB, but not that Wario cart. Played through it using Red Dragon - an excellent VB emulator and much easier on the eyes.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss Vita
And that marks the first title finished on my newly acquired PSV. Unfortunately, I don't have much I really found great about the game. While the core of Uncharted is here, it's just not remotely as polished as even the original game. Also in unfortunate news, they shoved a bunch of touch-screen nonsense that breaks up the flow of the game, and the quick time events utilizing swipes are also frustrating. The graphics while in detail are good the resolution is a bit sub-par and there are jaggies everywhere. The control isn't nearly as tight either, but not because of the hardware (which I'm loving). The game doesn't feel nearly as smooth or precise in movement as the other games, and I frequently missed jumps. Aiming is actually just fine though, and I have always enjoyed the stiff, precise aiming in Uncharted games (and Warhawk/Starhawk). One of the better things in the game are the more open areas found when you're not fighting however. They're more reminiscent of the original Uncharted, and there's a lot more exploration involved compared to the third installment.
So that all said, it's not nearly as impressive as the PS3 Uncharted games in any way, but, it's still far from bad. The difference being that nobody is going to remember this game, unlike Uncharted 3, which I imagine will be held at the top of the throne as the premiere cinematic 3rd person shooter for quite a long while. It's certainly not a bad attempt by a third party studio, and the title is tailored a bit better to pick up and play enthusiasts with more chapters, smaller if more frequent cut-scenes, and it's shorter length. At it's original asking price of $40 it would have been good. For free with PS+ though, I really can't complain too much.
Edit: Also there's no multiplayer, which severely limits the replay value of the game IMO. Sure they added the cards and there are more treasures than in previous games, but, being story driven it just isn't quite as fun to go back to as a less focused experience would be.

Torchlight II was awesome, and a very substantial and far-reaching evolution of the first game. I felt that the game scaled a bit better and presented more of a fair challenge throughout, had an in-depth inventory management system, and no shortage of sweet sweet loot. It looks great with stylish art direction, too - the story is an absolute mess, unfortunately.
All things considered, though, I think I still preferred Diablo III. In a perfect world there would be parts from each game merged into one, but for now Blizzard's "controversial" title gets the nod from me.
I GOT GORGAR! I consider a Pinball Arcade game "beat" once I ace all the Wizard Goals. This one wasn't too bad to do. Next up, hopefully: The Black Knight.

Wild Arms was a game I went in wanting to love, spent most of my time actively disliking it and sort of came to terms with at the end. A lot of my issues stemmed from the game not being what I expected it to be. I thought I was gonna get a PS1 era RPG with a cool western theme for its setting and story. What I got was a rather generic SNES style RPG, complete with overly simplistic translation, trope-filled storyline, pretty generic battle mechanics and incredibly typical JRPG fantasy conventions - not really full of sprawling desert towns, saloons, trains, horses and canyons here, it's all ports, airships, castles and demons, same as always. There are a few nods to the western thing here and there - the character where cowboy style clothing, the music sounds kinda western sometimes and theres the odd village where it feels a little closer - there's even a village of 'definitely not Native Americans'. What is here though is very solid. The difficulty is mostly fairly easy, but not mindlessly so, the pacing is fairly fast (the game took me about 24 hours) and theres a nice large variety of special moves, which each of your three characters gets to learn in a different way to keep stuff interesting. The dungeons are kinda puzzley, like Golden Sun but to a lesser extent. Overall I just found myself bored - it reminds me of Breath of Fire 1 in how utterly generic it can feel. On the plus side though, the music of the game was awesome. Not that interested to try the others in the series, especially now I know they really don't make use of their supposed western theme.
Fantastic Dizzy was a fun little game I played for Together Retro, and I'm glad to have played it. The presentation of the game is great, with colourful graphics, catchy music and cool weather and time effects (it rains on occasion and gradually changes from day to night as you play). The puzzles are simple enough to figure out, but the menu system for carrying and using objects is pretty cumbersome, it probably would've been better tp let you carry everything at once like most modern adventure games do. The platforming worked fine too, even with Dizzy committing to a jump once airbourne and rolling until his feet find flat ground when landing. The main issue with the game comes from the hit detection and damage meter - enemies often move in random or erratic patterns and hurt you whilst you're in contact with them. There's no invincibility frames meaning one unlucky encounter can quickly sap all of your health. I didn't think much of the games character designs outside of maybe Dizzy - most of the yolkfolk were ugly as hell. It's a good game though overall, and I'll be keeping it for my collection.

I have no clue why this game gets such much guff. My only issue with the game is that it doesn't tell you your set goal for each level, leaving you totally blind to know if you will beat the level or not. I do know however if you see the commish' on a surf board it is game over.
But as long as you pay attention, Sewer Shark is pretty simple, and fun. For those who have never played it because all you've heard has been "Sewer Shark Sucks", I'd suggest you give it a spin. And if you do, read the instructions first.
