^This is partly why I even tell my pals "I love you" often. Makes some of them uncomfortable, but usually I get a "Love you too buddy" in return. Might sound fruity, but I don't care as I like my friends to know I care about them.

My best friends feel more like siblings to me than some of my actual siblings do, so I definitely get it. I don't get to see some of them often, but at least a couple get hugs when I do.

He should be the one asking the questions, but "Tell me about yourself" would be a good place to start.

I mean, if you care to talk to him. You also have every right to tell him to eff off if he hasn't made an attempt to keep up with his boy.

There is an episode of the Fresh Prince, I repeat and emphasize the Fresh Prince, that makes me cry like a bitch with a scraped knee every time. Will's Dad finally comes to visit, only to break the kid's heart. Will asks "Why doesn't he want me?" and it pretty much leaves me a wreck for the rest of the day.

I'm straight up Danny Tanner when it comes to hugs. I even hug my boss and co-workers when it seems appropriate. Not overly touchy-feely, but the handshake to quick hug, pat on the back, and done.

I've wanted so much to basically just ask "what the fuck, man?" My mom's always kept the door open for him to contact me, and the only time he ever took advantage of that was when my grandfather on his side died.

The times I have talked to him, he was certainly eager to talk about how great his other kids are and how he's proud of this and that that they've done. Nothing against my step-siblings of course, but man that sort of thing doesn't make me feel any better about my relationship with him at all.

So many things I want to say to him about that crap, but on the rare occasion I'll get to talk to him, it just feels... inappropriate to bring all of it up.

Man, I know exactly what you're talking about. It definitely hits home.

People love to give advice when they have no frame of reference. If that episode of Fresh Prince makes me so, so very sad, I couldn't imagine what it would be like in real life.

I also don't "know" you, and we've never had a heart to heart so I don't know how you "operate". But if I had an absent Father, no matter how painful it might be, I'd ask for an explanation. I wouldn't judge, wouldn't chastise, wouldn't expect much, but you are entitled to an explanation.

Probably, the issue is actually mustering up the nerve to ask him. One day...

Yep, my friends are the same when I say that. Growing up, my family said "I love you" or "love ya" fairly often. That's not to say it lost any meaning though. If I tell my friends that I love them, it's because I do, and I mean it every time.
