The controller looks nice, but the console and the kinect don't do anything for me

ds: The thing about Steam... sales. I wouldn't expect anything in return for $10-20 purchases anyways. Though personally I haven't bothered trading anything in in anyways myself for... ages, can't remember the last time.

But no way in hell will you ever see those prices on XBL.

Anyways jokes aside, that was without a doubt the most underwhelming and boring console reveal I've seen in my gaming lifetime, really. We're in a different age and have hit a graphical wall here and there blah blah blah, but boy do I miss when console reveals were about tech girth and power. Not features and bloatware I'll never use. "Then don't buy it", well it's definitely looking like I won't. After building a decent gaming rig I was going to be more selective this time around anyways, and MS definitely just helped me come very close to a decision on my next console choice.

You serious? lol, I think if it had a wood finish (half/half styled), it'd look like it could play Laserdisc.

You already do, if less frequently and not quite as low: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/sho ... p?t=338873

lots of reasonable prices there for retail releases in digital form.

This is one silly thread.

Before everyone hates this console or calls everyone a moron for buying it...I don't know....Maybe try it first before you form your opinion?

Totally see how "No used Games" will be a deal breaker for some, but from a business standpoint I look forward to seeing how that plays out with retailers like Game Stop where used games are their cash cow.

After sitting on this overnight, I'll be less reluctant to consider the Xbox One if at E3 they throw down more of their cards and emphasize their games. I suppose the lens that I was hoping for was gaming-centric, instead it was feature based. So, I'm not convinced it was a very strong reveal.

However, I am still a bit concerned about the shift in the distribution of the games. I want a console for the exact reasons other posters have mentioned, it's supposed plug and play with minimal downtime. If Microsoft wants us to go through the motions of installing our games on Xbox One, why not just build a PC. Couldn't you piece together a form-factor PC that does everything the Xbox One does and also sits as part of your living room for a relative price?

On the plus side, the first impressions of that controller were evidently very cool, tighter d-pad, vibrations in the trigger, sturdier sticks. And evidently the new Kinect features do seem to be an improvement over the existing Kinect.

I would guess that to stay afloat they will have to do something pretty radical.

The problem, the way I see it anyway, is that games cost too much when they are new which deters people from buying them. Those people then wait a few weeks for a sale or used copies to start to surface. This upsets the publishers.

So how about if the cost of the games was reduced at release, but maintained the price for longer. Would this keep people happy and the publishers as well? Retailers should have the weight to make this happen

I havw mixed feelings about some of the demo as well, but again they were trying to show off what the system can do and showed a few of their top selling games.
They were speaking to their target audience. And to be honest, most of the members of racketboy are not their target audience. There are several who have chimed in here who would not have bought the system no matter what was presented. We are a niche group, many in here havent or just recently adopted a current gen console. On my sports league forums, many of the guys there are excited about the reveal. It does a lot of things they want, and offers a beefed up system that can help build physics, AI, and graphics in the various sports games. And lets face it, the sports and fps gamers are buying a lot of those games.
I don't like the forced kinect integration, nor does the tv stuff really intrigue me. But some of the tech and how fluid it is is kind of impressive. To me it seems kind of meh when watching it, but might become more intriguing and useful when you actually bring it home and start using it.

I have some reservations about the implications of the used game policy amongst others. But as being accustomed to digital formats on steam and my vita, it doesn't bother me as much. Being always online is fine by me as I am always online when I game.

Doesn't the Ps3 make you install most of your games already?

And as for distribution, they will start the game at $60. Then when sales lag, they will start dropping the price to entice more to buy it. How long that takes will depend on the popularity of the game.

I'd say maybe 10% of my PS3 games require an install. And about 50% have the option to install to decrease load times. I always install when possible anyway. And I see nothing wrong with the Xbox One doing FULL installs so that the game disc isn't even required.

Means we can be even more lazy when switching between games.

I'm 50/50 on the controller. From what I read the new rumble is going to be really nice if done well, and the buttons are more "clicky" which is also a preference of mine. On the original Xbox that's one reason I used a MadCatz controller they came out with. The curved triggers a la Dreamcast are also a minor improvement. The D-Pad might be an improvement as well, so we'll see.

I just didn't like the actual shape of the controller and I think it devolved in this respect. It seems blockier than the 360 controller.
