Very small, super easy DS USB power adapter

Post by Mozgus »

Not much to say on this one. All you need is a DS connector, a USB connector, some wire and solder, and just criss-cross the connections like this while clamping the metal shielding together (probably best not to skip this). And you'll probably want a usb extension cable (found everywhere and often included with PC peripherials), or else this fragile adapter could bend and break. Also, you'll want to use some electrical tape or heatshrink to cover the exposed area (I haven't done that yet. Will tomorrow at work.)

You can always just buy a usb power cable for the DS but I could never find any USA sellers for them. Beware of dealxtreme's version, because thats the one that failed on me which led to me resorting to this mod. The wires inside that cable are super thin and can easily pull apart inside, leaving you wondering why your DS wont show the charging light anymore.

And here it is finished. Sealed the exposed areas in electrical tape inside, braced with a couple lug plates at work, and heatshrunk the whole thing. Superglued the plates so they wont shift around inside. Works great.

Cheap, simple, and effective; Good work.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

The wires in the one that automatically rolls up are indeed super thin, but mine has been ok for now. I'm just extremely careful with it.
I think they have another version which is a more normal cable and you can fold - it's not as convenient to travel with as the self-coiling one, but looked much more resilient in the picture.

Thanks for the mod though, if mine fails I might try this.

The one that failed on me was anormal black rounded cable. It wasnt flat or anything. But inside, the 3 individual wires were whisper thin.
