What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I feel your frustration. Unfortunately a tornado doesn't provide the ratings and fear that a public shooting/bombing does.

Chalk doesn't prevent deaths of students. The funding issues of schools is a different issue. If money can be spent on other preventive and/or safety measures then it can be allocated for this. The federal government allocated funds for the new orleans levy system.

And I am really not a big crusader for this as it may seem. Just frustrated by the different response to this from media and in general compared to recent events like sandy hook, boston marathon, and sandy storm. The death toll of this more than doubles the others combined.
Again, nobody is going to take any sort of stance against tornado shelters. There is no debate to be had, no controversy, nothing. It's pretty obvious why media treats it differently. Calling for better spending on safety measures isn't as sensational as a gun debate.

EDIT: dammit Luke

Oh I understand why. Another reason is the location. Rural central US. Tornados are also mostly isolated to the lesser dense areas and most people can have the 'that is sad but oh it won't happen to me' attitude. Shootings/bombings can potentially happen anywhere.

But when the other tragedies happen, people ask why no gun control, how did this guy get past intelligence, why werent the levies better? I don't hear a why no underground shelters at the schools? That's more of the point I am getting at. Maybe we will and it just hasn't happened yet.

I also was surprised to see nothing on here about it, when the other tragedies sparked up discussion immediately.

Again, it's like you said. Isolated rural area, far less chance any of us will have any friends or family there. We're talking about it now though, so there's that.

Besides, a lot of major news stories don't make the rounds in here. I don't remember much talk in here about the plant explosion until a few days after the fact.

I had similar thoughts when that occurred as well, atleast as far as attention goes. I am not sure if they figured out what, if anything, could have been easily or obviously prevented.

Because people are sad, not angered.

"That's terrible" doesn't spark off conversation as "What an a$$hole" does. With the shooting/bombing tragedies we had tons of questions to answer. With a Tornado, the only story is misery.

We'll be flooded with stories about the incident over the week, but for unfortunate reasons kanye west calling himself "yesus" will probably top the headlines for now until the news finds some person in OK who was recently reunited with her lost kitten.

No offense to snickers, but this made me laugh. Reminded me of a friend who said something similar:

"Finally! I am DONE with geometry. Now I can actually take the courses I want to involving architecture."

My prior comment was a bit silly, Should have been a little more specific  , I hate math class' not math. I'm fairly well rounded at math (as I should be) but just wish class' were not as boring as they are, and riddled with repetitive "busy" work and little Instruction time.(even for lectures)

Frown: Just no time for gaming lately. I get a few missions of Code of Princess here and there but between work, house renovations, and finishing cleaning out my apartment, I just can't find many chances to vid'ja gaeme

Smile: The XboxOne reveal. What a mess. Whereas I am an early Nintendo adopter, I always wait for Microsoft to get their shit together before giving them money. With no skin in the game, I was free to sit back and watch the train wreck. I am sure Microsoft will stop being tone deaf at some point but for now... that name, that VCR design, the inane penalty for used discs...just wow.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
