Hopefully they bring it over to PSN or something.
It will work great on iOS, becauseIt's sonic...you have only one button to push, "Right!"

Man, I've been playing the hell out of this and there is so much additional content in this version it's nuts. Anybody who says this isn't worth picking up is crazy. This is not just Sonic 1 remade with widescreen, this has a ton of rom hack-like options you can turn on and off. They really let you play with the engine. You can turn on and off incredibly minute aspects of the engine to make the game behave more like Sonic CD or Sonic 3 -- the kind of stuff average players won't notice. You can also play a remixed mode that adds in the Sonic 3 elemental shields and adds a 7th emerald (and thus Super Sonic). There are new enemies and new objects and you can play as Tails and Knuckles, or even Sonic with Tails following him.

Such an incredibly neat product, and it's crazy that this is official from Sega! This is one of the best re-releases of a game, period! Terrific port, I can't wait for Sonic 2. It sucks for most people waiting for the inevitable Xbox 360/PS3 releases, but playing this on my tablet connected to my TV with a dual shock 3 is pretty awesome. I hope Sonic 2 includes Hidden Palace Zone.

EDIT: They also included some beta items, like the goggles that were never in any official sonic games.

Wow.

And yeah seriously, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 should have just used this engine. What could have been...

The rolling ball from the green hill zone beta is also included, as are the UFOs in the marble zone beta. A few of the bosses are a bit different, too, like the Spring Yard Zone boss which has walls come up (to make it so that you have the same number of tiles to stand on as the original). The wrecking ball for the green hill zone boss now rotates and doesn't flicker anymore. The rotating tubes in Scrap Brain Zone and the Special Stages themselves now have true rotation instead of faked 32-step rotation. A ton of changes all around.

There are also beta badniks included, like Splats the Bunny. This makes me optimistic that we're going to see a bunch of stuff from Sonic 2 added back in, because that game has the most lost stuff of any Sonic game. And all of it has been unearthed.

Of course you can turn on and off the spindash, and there are multiple save slots and even a no-save mode. Even the menu is slick, featuring a 3D rendering of the Sonic box that you take a 3D sonic cartridge out of. And you can select the region of the box and cart.

Options all around. That says nothing about the remastered music, which sounds terrific. It doesn't sound different from the original compositions, just much richer. It sounds like what the Genesis was trying to sound like, if that explains it well.

This really is an awesome port. I would love to have a physical copy of this. Shit, I don't even find the touch screen controls to be that cumbersome. I can play the game fine with the touch controls, and I've been whipping this game out on my phone while standing on the bus. The widescreen aspect helps make it so that my hands aren't obscuring the action, and because I have such an enormous phone (A samsung note 2) the experience is a lot more comfortable than that of a small iphone or android phone.

I think the big reason this hasn't been announced for the Xbox or PS3 is because they're waiting to bundle it with Sonic 2. I think they're going to push Sonic 2 hard, because they're going to add a bunch of stuff back in. I hope I'm right.

Irritates me that a remastered version of a CONSOLE game that came out on the Genesis in 1991 is only available on iOS and Android. Cruel irony. I honestly don't care about this game until it comes out on a REAL gaming platform.

I hope you're right too.

I'm loving it. Well worth the 3 bucks. Bring on Sonic 2 and 3 and Knuckles.

Its nice to see Super Tails again. And a new version too, Flicky free. Surprising.

Calm down, it'll come to consoles. It's based on the same engine that the port of Sonic CD that came to download services not too long ago was. It's designed to be easy to port.
