Do you collect an entire series?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

Yeah. Sometimes it depends on the series, but normally, even if I don't really like certain games in a series, I will try to collect all of them. Not really sure why but I hate having gaps in my collection, especially if the series is numbered. I guess it's an OCD thing.

EDIT:
For handheld variants of a console series, my mindset is a little different. If I don't really like the portable series as much, and it isn't tied into the main console series, I won't specifically go out of my way to get the handheld games.

In all honesty, the only video game series in which I have any interest collecting ALL of the games would be for the Legend of Zelda series (and yes I don't count the CDi games either).

That being said, I find it funny that I now have all the North American F-Zero games. In fact the only game(s) I'm missing is F-Zero Climax for the GBA (Japan, since it was never released in North America), and if you want to count it, the BS F-Zero games (there's one available as a repo cart for 47 bucks I don't have yet).

I very much enjoy owning every game in a series. Though I only tend to count the main series and such.

I own every game in these series:

Final Fantasy (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12, 13, and 13-2. The MMO's Don't count.)

Fallout (1, 2, 3, New Vegas)

Devil May Cry (1, 2, 3, 4. I consider DmC a different series since the story is different.)

Doom (1, 2, 3)

Metal Gear Solid (1, 2, 3, 4)

Hyperdimension Neptunia (1, 2, 3)

Mass Effect (1, 2, 3)

Prince of Persia (1, 2, 3)

Star Ocean (1, 2, 3, 4)

Shadow Hearts (1, 2, 3)

Xenosaga (1, 2, 3)

Gothic (1, 2, 3)


Then last but not least, I own all but one of the games in the Resident Evil series. That one is RE0 on Gamecube, which I'll likely never play because Gamecube. Also I own all of the original Alone on the Dark games, but not either of the two new ones because I've heard they were pretty terrible.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

The only two series that I actively collect for are Castlevania and Shin Megami Tensei.

Yes, but not always on purpose. I own every Devil May Cry game and have only played possibly ten minutes of the first game.

Not until recently, but I've begun attempting to collect the Megami Tensei and Yakuza series. Of course, both series have games that didn't make it outside of Japan, making them a little more of a project to collect than say the Zelda series, although I'm close enough to owning all of those that I should probably just finish them off. I'm also starting to want CIB games more than I used to but that goes double if know from the get-go that I'm going to be after collecting the whole series.

I might own every title in a series, but if you count remakes or spin-offs, then my complete series collection shrinks.

Unquestionably, every titles in the series:
Commander Keen
Doom
Monkey Island
Panzer Dragoon

Questionably, every title that "really counts" in the series:
Ace Attorney (every DS game released in the US)
Dragon Quest (some version of I-IX, not all the spinoffs)
Phantasy Star (every single player game)
Sonic the Hedgehog (every game released on a Sega system... I'M SAYING THAT'S THE SERIES)
Ultima (I'm missing some of the console/Game Boy games)

This thread is definitely making me think about neglected sequels to popular games. Like Earthworm Jim 3D or Ultima: Runes of Virtue.

Yes, though I don't feel the need to own every single port and variation in most cases.

I own every Final Fantasy game released in the US, except for those Chocobo dungeon crawlers. I'd still like to pick up some of the Japan-only releases too, like the WonderSwan Color games.

I own all of the numbered Dragon Quest/Warrior games - haven't got into the "Monsters" spin-off series yet.

I have most Phantasy Star games - still want IV on Genesis and the Japan-only Saturn/PS2 re-issues. Don't care too much about getting those super-pricey GameCube MMO ports.

I'm trying to get a complete set of the North American Tales of... releases, but Tales of Destiny II has eluded me thus far.

With Ys, I own Ys I (SMS), I&II (Turbo CD, DS, PSP), III (SNES), IV (SF), (the other) IV (PC Engine CD), V (SF), VI (PS2), and VII (PSP). I'd still like to round out that collection by picking up Ys Strategy (DS - Japan and PAL only), Ys VI on PSP, and the Genesis and Turbo CD ports of III.

Yes, it is probably the main way I collect actually.

Final Fantasy is one of the ones I have maybe over-collected, but at the same time I don't collect anything I deem irrelevant (i.e. anything past X, Kingdom Hearts). This goes for other series as well. I have all the major installments (1-10) and all remakes, and most of the spin-offs.

With fighting games, if it's a favorite franchise (Street Fighter, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear), I like to own every revision. So I pretty much have a shelf full of said games. Surprisingly, Guilty Gear takes up the most space, since the entire SF franchise can be had in compilations.

I also tend to collect by developer. As most know I'm a huge From Software fan, so I've collected every one of their games and several LEs. I'm also big on collecting shmups by developer (Hudson Soft, Cave, Toaplan).

I tend to blindly collect RPGs by series as well, which may not be a good thing but I like to know I have them if I want to play them. I have a shelf packed to the guts with PS2 games, most of which are complete RPG series that I have barely touched if at all.

I try to because I'm an O.C.D. collector; probably due to being a comic collector first. But I think I only have like 1 or 2 actual entire series. I'm VERY close on lot of them, though.
