Maybe it's not a big deal for serious collectors, but it's rare for me to have every entry in a series. What do you own every entry in? For this thread, a "series" has three games or more. Having a game and its sequel isn't all that rare.
For me:
Valkyrie Profile (3)
Gundemonium (3)
Huh.
Do you collect an entire series?

Re: Do you collect an entire series?
I dont like buying a game in a series unless ive played them in order, assuming the story connects between them.
Like Final Fantasy, the story doesnt connect between them, so you could play them in any order really...
But you would want to play all the Uncharted games in order, so you know whats going on between characters, and then flashbacks make sense.
I have Xenosaga 1 and 2, would like to find the 3rd, also i collected all the Kain series games, now just to sit down and play through them all, the first Blood Omen is kinda boring, but i can see how it was great for its time.
So to answer your question, yes, if i enjoy a series i do want to collect them all.

Re: Do you collect an entire series?
I tend to collect series of games as well. Or at least I try. Pokemon is a big one for me. I have every main series Pokemon games from Crystal to Black and White 2. I have all of the Mystery Dungeon games and Ranger games too. I'm sick I know.
Usually with series I play them in order. Not only for story but for the improved features the game would or should bring to the table. I don't feel odd to go back and play a game where a feature is lacking simply because it just wasn't available from a design standpoint but I like to go in "release" order if I can.

Just for clarification, are you talking every game in a franchise on every system? Or just the games in the mainline of the series?Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Maybe it's not a big deal for serious collectors, but it's rare for me to have every entry in a series. For instance - I have Resident Evil 1-3 on PS1, Code Veronica on DC, RE4 and RE0 on Gamecube, RE5 and 6 on 360. Those are what I consider the main games in the series.
I also have Code Veronica X and RE4 on PS2, RE1 on Gamecube, and some other miscellaneous crap lying around. I don't have any of the on-rails shooters, DS games, or any of those PS2 online ones that didn't feature voice chat for whatever reason. Oh, and that crappy GBA one.
So I don't have all the games with the Resident Evil name on them, but I do have the main games in the series. Which one are you looking for?
Re: Do you collect an entire series?
There are only 2 series I have done this with and only one I actively done it with.
Gran Turismo is a series I always get the newest installment of and therefore I just happen to have all 7 releases.
...and there is Metal Gear Solid. I have at every game in the series (some of them more than once) because I made sure i had them all. Ends up being 10 games not counting spinoffs.

Re: Do you collect an entire series?
No. There's not a single long-lasted series in which every title is good, and I don't want crap on my shelves. I think the only exception is the Mario Bros series, but I don't have the Wii-U one and I won't be getting it. (Also, what all counts for this series? Does it end with Super Mario World and pick up again with New Super Mario Bros? Do the Game Boy games count?)

Re: Do you collect an entire series?
I suppose you'd have to count each series individually. I counted the spinoff in Valkyrie Profile, but if you only have the mainline titles in a long-running series that's fine. Imagine someone owning everything with the Final Fantasy name on it...

Re: Do you collect an entire series?
I've never really aimed for it, but I own some titles which nearly make up whole series. For example, I own every GTA game except for a few on PSone; I went through a major GTA phase when I about 15.
I own all the console releases of the Uncharted and Assassins Creed games, but I've just bought these gradually as they've come out.

Yeah and I like to define a collective series however I want, ie Megaman X7 doesn't count, but I own X-X6 on their original platforms and the X collection for good measure. lol
Plenty more, but I have a few "sets" mostly on the SNES/PSX/PS2, and I'm proud of my black label set of the PSX FF's (Origins, Chronicles, Anthology, Tactics, FFVII-IX).

If that's the case, I have all of the X collection, too.Xeogred wrote:Yeah and I like to define a collective series however I want, ie Megaman X7 doesn't count, but I own X-X6 on their original platforms and the X collection for good measure. lol
