Hmm... even with personal fav shmups on DC like Fast Striker, Mars Matrix, Under Defeat and Zero Gunner 2, I gotta give credit where credit's due to the Saturn for its more robust library in the genre.
Now, when it comes to fighters, Dreamcast simply takes it regardless of the awesome selection of Fighters Saturn has to its name. More importantly, Fighters on the DC are still very relevant.
MVC 1 and 2. CVS 1, Pro and 2. KOF 98 thru 02. Garou, Last Blade 2, GGX, nearly every CPS3 production. And that's only its 2D fighter sub genre! It's 3D fighters are just as appealing to me.
In the end though, both consoles do justice to both niche categories, which to me is greatly acknowledged and enthusiastically appreciated.

Let me throw a wrinkle in this debate for a second...
Which system do you all think is better for fighters and shmups, IF.....you took imports out of the equation??

DC would be far and away my choice if you eliminated imports. Granted, there are some solid US releases for Saturn, but virtually no shmups and a few sparse fighters.MyNameIsVince wrote:Let me throw a wrinkle in this debate for a second...

Right. As far as US libraries goes, I think DC would take it. But WHY take imports out considering how easy both consoles are to play imports on?foxhound1022 wrote:DC would be far and away my choice if you eliminated imports. I tried this morning to play Daytona, virtua cop, xmen Cora, and die hard arcade. I can't play them anymore. It was very grainy to play and xmen cota you can see how 2d games have changed over the years. Made my choice and I'm getting rid of it. Thanks for all the advice and help. I did play mvc2 on the dreamcast and love that game. Looks great with vga.

Daytona and Virtua Cop may looks a bit rough visually speaking, but they play spot on as their arcade counterparts. Xmen and Die Hard Arc feel a bit dated in terms of gameplay i'll admit that, but its to be expected considering both games laid some hefty groundwork for their respective genres.mas wrote:I tried this morning to play Daytona, virtua cop, xmen Cora, and die hard arcade. Tonight I'm going to pack my xbox up and stuff it in the closet. So no more Roma or mame. Then I'm going to give the Saturn a damn chance. I will research and look at what I really want on this. Then buy a action replay and buy imports or disc on to save money. I love arcade and 2d fighters and shmups. This and the dreamcast should be my choice of systems along with my ps2.

Have you considered a PCE or CMVS? That might be right up your alley.
