Yeah I didn't really see a use for it but it was $1 so it was a reflex buy.

Was kind of thinking the same but dont have a Pal M tv to test it lol.

Here are some more pics.

Ah, OK, makes more sense now. I didn't know where PAL M was, it's Brazil. Or "Brasil" apparently.

So according to Wiki, "In Brazil, PAL is used in conjunction with the 525 line, 30 frame/s system M, using (very nearly) the NTSC colour subcarrier frequency. Almost all other countries using system M use NTSC. ... PAL-M signals are identical to North American NTSC signals, except for the encoding of the colour carrier. Therefore PAL-M will display in monochrome with sound on an NTSC set and vice versa. ... PAL-M being a standard unique to one country, the need of to convert it to/from other standards often arises. ... Conversion to/from NTSC is easy, as only the colour carrier needs to be changed. Frame rate and scan lines can remain untouched."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL-M

So it makes a lot more sense why such an adapter would exist. IIRC, Brazil imports a lot of NTSC stuff.

Also, you can test this on your NTSC TV. It'll just be in black and white.

edit: For $1, I totally would have bought it too! I would think it would only be useful to some one in Brazil, but it might not be too hard to sell in the BST section of game forums.

Last thought, since it seems like it just inputs composite video (and nothing unique to the PS1) than you could modify it to just accept composite video instead of the proprietary Playstation plug. That way, you'd be able to use it for pretty much any NTSC source and adapt it to PAL-M. At least, I assume so. It would make it easier to sell that way.

I'll have to try it out on my PS3. Interestingly enough my brothers roommate is from Brazil and is camping out at our house until his internship in Texas starts up next week.

Edit:
Tried it on the PS3 and it works fine. Displayed in black and white. Only problem I had was diagonal scan lines but that may have been caused by my display settings which I didn't feel like messing with :P.

Great score. Mario DX has The Lost Levels!

I went to a bunch of rummage sales today, but didn't find much. I did get two kids' anime games for $.50 each - Dragonball Z Ultimate Whatever 22 and Digimon Rumble Arena. DBZ is abysmal, but Digimon is actually awesome. It's like Smash Bros, but with a much smaller moveset and a much faster pace. The stage will change as matches go on, rotating itself, throwing bombs at you, or dropping the floor out. Your "Digi" meter fills with damage and you can "digivolve" into a powerful robot. Vs. mode is really fun. With skilled players, it becomes a battle for position until an item or stage change shakes things up.

I also got a nice A/V switch so I can keep my composite/component consoles plugged in. My LCD uses the same jack for component and composite inputs...real nice.

Finally found something decent today.

We were doing our usually thrift store run, and while we were coming up on the store, I noticed they were having some type of sale in the parking lot of the reality business next door. As we passed by I saw what I thought looked like a red blu-ray case. My brain immediately thought "Game", so after parking at the thrift store we walked next door. They had a pile of PS2 games, but nothing that piqued my interest. Right next to those, however, was a pile of PS3 games. Most of it was pretty 'meh', but they were all complete and I spotted a couple I'd had my eye on for a while.

I was expecting them to be priced pretty high, but when I asked how much they were I was told $2 each  :D So I brought them home with me.

Almost as good as playing Atari in black and white. Which by the way, I have done when I was very young!
