I actually just got a gym membership the other day. I was just about to walk out the door and saw this thread. I mostly work my upper body since I've biked everywhere my whole life so my legs are incredibly strong. Cardio is pointless for me at this point since I can sprint on my bike for about 10 minutes straight.
I decided to start going to the gym since there was only so much I could do at home and hadn't actually felt my muscles burn in about 3 weeks. I'm 6'3" and about 180 maybe less, but I'm still skinny in the arms, I have some fat in chest so I don't look all that small, I actually look kind of built. My gym partner is my friend Paul who's a 280 pound black dude I grew up with. We get some funny looks from time to time. Funny thing is when it comes to abs I push more weight then he does.
The Working Out/Fitness Thread

Dammit. That's what I was aiming for.o.pwuaioc wrote:I bet your trainer doesn't even have a Saturn 3D pad.
I'm a bit surprised someone hasn't dropped a lame Powerpad or Wii fitness joke.

If they did, i wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't meant to be a joke.Luke wrote:Dammit. That's what I was aiming for.o.pwuaioc wrote:I bet your trainer doesn't even have a Saturn 3D pad.

Here's my workout plan, please rate on a scale of 1-10
1. Play World Class Track Meet on the NES for a leg workout.
2. 10 Squats in between races.
3. Play Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.
Running in place is really brutal bro, but the wii-mote gives my arms a brutal pump. I played this game and not an hour later set a personal best on the high jump. Coincidence? Think again.

Gonna start up DDP Yoga soon. Sounds awesome and incorporates a bit of everything from what I've seen.
Probably the best route for me to go so far and maybe for life, I need stamina/flexibility back due to the neck injury I've mentioned off and on, from 6-7 years back and things just haven't been the same. Been a tough year so far, MRI, meds, epidermal injections, physical therapy... baby steps but I can already feel and pretty much know doing nothing physically is the worst thing to do and never gonna heal up inflammation/bulging discs. So hopefully things improve overtime, I've always had the problem of working out but not being consistent and sticking with it, but I've never felt as determined as I am now.

Re: The Working Out/Fitness Thread
I love pull-ups. Upside-down pull ups too.
Weight training is fun. I alternate between core lifts (bench, squat, etc) and more coordinated ones that make use of the smaller muscle groups (hang cleans are super awesome). Right now I'm squatting over twice my body weight. I do this 3 times a week.
Other 2 days are cardio. I always run, but boxing, judo, and karate are where it's at. Challenging someone else is the same as challenging yourself! This is the whole reason I work out anyway.
If I can't work out a certain day, I do shadowboxing and a hundred pull ups before I to to sleep or shower.
Stretching is super important too if you want to be a martial artist. Plus the right diet, and guts.

Re: The Working Out/Fitness Thread
Yeah, I've worked on my diet a ton over the last year and continue to improve it. At this point I've probably been at like no body fat for quite a few months now, got my high school abs back and everything. It's weird looking somewhat defined when I'm not physically active, so I'll be interested to see how the results turn out when I start doing stuff. Although that'll all be a bonus for me heh, I mainly want to feel human again and do it to live a healthier lifestyle!
So I got the diet side of things laid out, just gotta start moving around now.

you must be young, lol. squats three times a week would put me in a wheelchair from lower back pain. enjoy it now. twice your body weight is impressive. i'm 200 and no way can my knees and back handle 400 from years of sports, and wear and tear. i'll top out at 300 for reps and move along to lower weight on front squats and dumbbell squats.

Re: The Working Out/Fitness Thread
Oh, I squat once a week and let my muscles heal while eating tons of protein. Three times a week would be counterproductive
I meant I did core lifts three times a week. I do mix it up
I hate front squats though, I built up my shoulders and collarbone in martial arts and now it's really awkward to balance all that weight on it. I'm careful of my back too. Always wear a weight belt!

Re: The Working Out/Fitness Thread
instead of balancing the weight on my shoulders and across the collarbone area i switched to holding the bar like you would finish on power cleans. was much easier. they do take some getting used to cause of the awkwardness but it hits your quads pretty good.
