EA is now out altogether, it seems: http://kotaku.com/ea-has-no-games-in-de ... -507588994

I guess you can forget any Star Wars titles for the WiiU.

I can go back to the Wii largely because of both first party titles and some nice retro-oriented third party games. Does the Wii U have any shmups, fighters, cool compilations, or other retro-friendly third party exclusives yet? I am not sure that first party stuff alone will be enough to make me buy this console while it is still current.

The console is 6 months old. How many shmups, fighters, cool compilations, or other retro-friendly third party exclusives were on the Wii by that time? Give it time.

Super Metroid is finally available on the eshop for 30 cents. I downloaded it right away, I have been wanting to play this, since I never have in the past. I have only played Metroid fusion, and zero mission on the GBA. I put in a little bit of time just now, and all I can say is wow... this game is good. The music is eery and very engrossing, and the gameplay feels spot on, the jumps are a little floatier than I expected, but its really fun.

You mean Super Metroid, which is the 3rd metroid game. Metroid II is a game boy game.

Otherwise I agree entirely.

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," company spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku yesterday. He did not rule out the chances of EA developing for the Wii U again.
I imagine once the install base is there, EA will start releasing games for it. It just isn't worth it to develop for the Wii U right now and I can't say that I blame them.

Isn't not getting EA sports titles one of the many things that killed the Dreamcast?

There were quite a few within the first year. From my own collection I have these games that I'd put into the retro-friendly category:

Excite Truck
Legend of Zelda, The: Twilight Princess
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Battalion Wars 2
Geometry Wars Galaxies
Namco Museum Remix
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Super Mario Galaxy
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure

Most of those were not out in the first six months, but they were out within the first year and announced within the first six months.

If you look at the launch lineups of the Wii, there is even more available from the start:

Gottlieb Pinball Classics (EU)
Rampage: Total Destruction
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (JP)

I just see in that first year more of the kinds of games that I liked to play on the Wii (and would see come to the system throughout its its life) that I often wouldn't find on other consoles. I don't see these kind of games on the Wii U yet, outside of the Mario Bros game NOR do I see them announced...

Wow, Super Metroid is awesome, but hard as crap! I got pretty mad during the big ugly dragon thing boss, took me like 5+ tries to get it. It was an awesome feeling beating it though. I find using the pro controller over the game pad feels much better, especially during tense boss battles, and tight platforming.
