Hi my friends,
I am pretty concern about my video game console boxes, the dust, the light and the time seems to be affecting it.
Unlike what happens with boxed or sealed games where I protect them with the products from videogameboxprotectors, consoles are just too big and obviously they don´t manufacture big protectors.
I been thinking in wrapping up the consoles with film, but looks very ugly. Is there some plastic UV resistant I can buy and use?.
How do you take care of boxes from video game consoles?.
Regards and thanks for your help.

By hiding them in the closet. Stays dark most of the time and little dust if the door stays closed. Now if you have yours on display, I dunno.

I have mine on display on top of my wardrobe:

Sadly they're not with the rest of my collection, but at least here they're out of direct sunlight (which is the ultimate enemy).

I use plexi glass (dont know if thats english) which comes in special uv protection variants. I built a display that stands in the sun at times, so this was a good solution for me.
A 1 meter by 1.50 meter sheet should be around 10 bucks, and you can cut it so it fits in front of the boxes.

It is. And that is what I plan on using. I am making a shelf for them that will be wood on the bottom and plexi on the front, side, and top. And have them line the ceiling of my game area.
Re: Taking Care of our Video Game Console Boxes
I would hate boxing consoles up when not in use, too much hassle setting up as well as the risk of damaging the video cords from the constant shuffle. SVideo connections for the N64 and PS1 for example, are too fragile to continually plug in.
I use an older printer cover for my 5200, both it and the 7800 are inside a shelf. Most of my consoles are right on the coffee table in the living room all hooked up ready to play. Luckily, the dust cannot get inside since the consoles have flaps or doors on them. I partially close the blinds in the afternoon to avoid the sun fade in not only the consoles, but the books and pictures in the room as well.

I actually ruined the back of my SNES box. The one that I got as a kid. Sun damage. Now I keep all of my console boxes away from the sun and dust them off once a week. Although I am a clean freak...

Same here, closet. You can put the handheld boxes in comic book sleeves. Works well to prevent dust & shelf wear.
