Major progress today! So I sucked it up and sanded off the first side I painted to get it more smooth, and let me tell you, I have no worries about the durability of this paint! My 100 grit was hardly making a dent, I bought a pack of 60 grit and after like an hour I finally was able to get some wood showing. I then thoroughly covered my garage in red dust, and I can still taste it :|

Anyway, I now have it all painted, and should be done, I will check tomorrow and might put on one more coat because I have just enough paint...

Please excuse the mess in the background, pretend its not even there

I also got my 1 slot board in, and it looks beautiful! The battery looks new, with no signs of leaking, and it looks like it was serviced by some repair company at one point, because it has a sticker on the bottom with a business name and address, and says warranty void if removed. I will have my Jamma adapter on Saturday, and I am almost home free on this project!

Edit:
Paint is done, cab is assembled, and I am getting my Jamma adapter tomorrow! It should be making its way into the house this weekend! I made a new monitor bezel at work using a black poster board, and laminated it. I then used the old bezel as a template and cut it out, it looks great (well as in you dont even notice it, unlike the old one that looked all crappy)

Also at work, we have a backlit film, and I wanted to see how mini marquees came out on it, printed one for Metal Slug 5, and some place holders and the came out pretty good, not glossy like originals, but they look nice

The 2 on the left are the prints, and the other is an original to show the difference:

Here they are in the cab, I need to adjust the board because they sit a little low, dont mind the speaker wire in front of the MS5 slot:

Warning, long post
Today started as a good day... My jamma adapter arrived nice and early, I got to finally see the fruits of my labor in glorious 25 inches. The monitor looks beautiful! The sound was perfect! Everything was good to go. I went to home depot to buy some casters for when it is in the house, making it easy to move around if necessary.

But then everything changed...I was home alone, my wife, busy all day, I feel that I can get the beast into the house myself. Its been on one of those mover's dollys since I got it, as to make it easy to move around the garage, but I had wondered how to get it off of the dolly. Rolling up to my font door, its too tall to make it through the archway on the dolly, looks like im getting it off here. I have a collection of small roadside jacks for cars, so I use these to raise it up enough to roll the dolly out, and figure i will lower it all the way and take them out one at a time, they are only a couple inches high when lowered all the way... as I begin to lower them, one suddenly has no force on it, the balance is off... and right in front of my eyes...it falls over. it hits the faucet where the garden hose attaches to....water everywhere...

I jump for the shut off valve, but everything is already wet. I stand over the cab in disbelief, is this a dream? It felt like one, the whole event playing out infront of me in slow motion. It takes me another few minutes to even do anything, had all my work, and money put into this been for nothing? I remove the glass that sits in front of the monitor, nothing looks broken... I figure being genital with it at this point is useless, so I get my work gloves, and with a mighty lift, get it back onto its feet. I dont even remember looking at the damage at this point, I just wanted to get it back in the garage first.

I slowly roll it back into the garage (those casters I installed worked great btw) and begin to take it apart. The initial inspection looks promising, the control panel is intact, the monitor is ok, the marquee looks good (this flung open during the fall since I didnt have it locked) everything is wet, but im not worried about the electronics, I know that as long as they are fully dry before powering them on, water will not hurt them. Time to look at the side that took the fall. It really was not as bad as I was expecting, the paint got completely scuffed up, some cracks in a couple areas, and a couple choice gouges in the wood. Back to square one, sand it all down, fill in the blemishes, and repaint...damn. I thought the other side was fine, but it seems that the water caused a weird reaction to the red in some areas, so I might just redo it all.

But the real problem at hand, was I needed to quickly learn to become a plumber! I had to fix that valve stat! Even with the shut off valve closed, it still was a slow steady stream of water coming out.Good thing home depot is about 3 minutes away from my house. Repairing the valve took me a good couple of hours, soldering copper pipe is nothing like electronics. I finally got it done, and it was time to check the condition of the electronics in the cab. I put the board in and hold my breath...the monitor didnt turn on :( ... oh wait, I forgot to hook it back up  In a blaze of glory I see metal slug roar to life again! My spirit is rejuvenated! I can rebuild it...again... better, faster, stronger.

These cabs are heavy! If it tips for any reason chances are you won't be able to stop gravity's effect. It happened to me one time, luckily one of my cars was close so it leaned on it when it tipped. Scared the S#!T out of me!

yep, damn that gravity! It didnt help that I was crouched down, so I couldnt grab it high enough to catch it. Anyway, I have started work on the damaged side, sanded off the red (again) and repaired the wood damage, which was not too bad, just wood glue into the cracks, and wood filler to build up the gouges.

I hate when stuff like this happens! Although, judging by the skill of your work so far, the repairs needed should be a cinch.

Small update:

I have fixed all the damage caused by the fall, and have it sanded and primed ready to paint. I have decided to redo everything in an even more legit way by stripping rest of the paint, sanding and filling any holes or indents to get a super smooth surface (I was never 100% happy with the previous surface). I am finally going to buy a paint gun and try spraying the finish on instead of rolling or brusing. Hoping to get the prep done by this weekend so I can paint.

Fired up the paint gun today for the first time, I was nervous at first, but I quickly got the hang of it, and I am in love! I dont think I will ever paint another way again, the gun is amazing. The pics may not look any different to you guys compared to my older ones, but the finish is so smooth its amazing!
