GB Camera -Transger to PC

Post by Luigiman »

I have a Gameboy Camera which I use to take pictures, and I want to import pictures onto my computer.

I know of a few methods.

One is to have your PC emulate a Gameboy Printer, but that requires a special cable and DOS and I don't feel like it.

Next is to transfer the .sav from a Gameboy Camera to a Mega Memory Cart, transfer that to a USB cart, THEN transfer that on to a PC, but that's a bit costly.

The last an final one (which I would really like to do) is tranferring the pictures from a Gameboy Camera to a flash cart with a ROM of the Gameboy Camera then putting that on a computer.

The only issue with that is what flash cart to get.

The BleepBloop cart was recommended, but that is no longer made, and the only one I could find was on some obscure website for $70

I read that other carts mostly had issues with the GB Camera rom and wouldn't work.

Is there any cart someone could recommend, or a different method?

Or, even better, anyone selling a BleepBloop GB flash cart for less than $70?

Another question: where can I buy the audio jacks for the pro sound Game Boy hack?
Thanks for any replies!

There's a thread here with some others. A Madcatz cable and an old pc with a printer port is the easiest way.

You could use a Super Gameboy connected to a capture card. That would be easy enough without fancy hacks and mods.

This would probably work better for me.

I already have a capture card and an SNES, so all I need is a Super Gameboy!

I don't really want to try the printer port one, only for convenience.

I may try a Gameboy Player instead, because I don't want to conform.

Using a Gameboy Player will result in a blurry mess as it upscales the picture.

With all the other options, it's possible to get a 1:1 non-interpolated/scaled image. Capturing the Super Gameboy's image is lossy, but it's possible (though difficult) to capture 1:1 through S-Video and not loose too much color data (a posterizing filter would get it back to digitally perfect). The biggest problem was getting the horizontal image settings right - It took me about 45 minutes of trial and error to find the right overscan, crop, resolution, and color settings through the capture card, then I had to deinterlace.

Buying the Madcatz cable (~$10 + S&H currently) and finding a free 486 tower/laptop PC shoudn't be too hard...
