Since I am a big advocate of MAME let me weigh in here real quick.
Out of the numerics I quite enjoy:
005 – Yes it's a bad Bond name to get players, but the game itself is
a fun mix of espionage, luck, and twitch.
88 Games – The only Olympic game worth playing, except maybe Summer Games.
19xx series – Ok they are alittle dated (atleast 42/43) but they are
solid shmups.
2020 Super Baseball – its like Base Wars, on the Neo Geo, in the future.
1000 Mile Rally – An amazing isometric racing game that is fun for
everyone. Just aracedy enough for the hardcore, but approachable to
anyone. The cab is 9 feet tall though (same height as a Neo Geo Red).
One of my most favorite and highest rated arcade games of all time.
720 Degrees – While I grew up a Skate or Die fan, 720 did far more for
the genre than it and is by far one of the most innovative sports
titles of all time.
Datsun 280 ZZZap – Ok, so it is just tunnel. Shut up.

Runnerups:
4-D Warriors – Fun horizontal shmup with a second plane. But it just
doesnt have the substance.
64th Street – A pretty but lacking Final Fight clone. I find it too
short and not different enough to stand out. Though that last stage
does take place on a blimp.

I dig Giga Wing, Mars Matrix, and Street Fighter vs. X-Men.

Back when I had MAME running, Vampire Savior.

I would be interested in Dodonpachi, but I'm content with the Sega Saturn version. Hopefully I'm not missing out on much.
