I adore Rebel Assault on the Sega CD. For me it was the first time I felt like I was playing a Star Wars space simulator. It's not perfect, but hey, it has Q-Sound (whatever that is).Curlypaul wrote: Rebel Assault: 5/10
I'm probably overrating RA, but there is something I like about that quirky game that I can't put my finger on. And I have the gimped MegaCD version as well
Thoughts on the new Star Wars movies?

Yeah the sound is really good, can't deny that! It does do a good job of capturing the feel of the films I think, and the story fits into them as well.
It has some infuriating difficulty spikes though

If you haven't played Rebel Assault 2 on the Playstation, seek it out. The gameplay is almost identical, but they added actual "actors", and it is super bad-hilarious.Curlypaul wrote:Yeah the sound is really good, can't deny that! lol I've not played it but seen some videos of it. Its on my ever growing list of things to buy..

Have you ever tried Jedi Knight? IMO it exceeds the greatness of even Dark Forces. Some of the best FPS level design I've ever seen. Walking along the outside of a Star Destroyer, being blown around in its ventilation system, etc. IMO, it's better than Half-Life which came out a year later.Ack wrote:Have you ever tried Dark Forces? That's easily my favorite Star Wars game.

I predict they will be even more self-indulgent and even more oblivious to the sources that the "prequels" were.
I do expect better acting, simply because I doubt they are good enough to sink that low

I don't get it. I just. . . can't comprehend it. I see a lot of favorable sentiment towards the Super Star Wars series but all I can ever see in them is missed potential. I have the first two, the first is ok. The second is completely ruined by the inane difficulty. It's not even difficulty, it's just absolute cheapness. There's no design to the game whatsoever, just randomly laid out levels and an algorithm that places in enemy at every empty pixel. And even if you manage to kill every one of them, they'll all respawn on top of you if you backtrack for a tenth of second.Luke wrote:Rate your favorite Star Wars games (preferably the ones you own).
Now!
I'll go ahead and say that much like the movies, Super Empire Strikes Back is the best of the snes trilogy.
It looks nice in screenshots though.

I've been beating the trilogy at least once a year since they were released. By miles Super Star Wars is the cheapest, and most difficult game of the three. The entire Jawa Crawler stage is terrible and almost unbearable.
Beating the lava monster only to fall into lava? One of the worst gaming moments ever.
Empire is the easiest, but the most satisfying of the series. If you think Empire is difficult, you never played with Chewie. It's a straight button masher breeze with one tough boss (spikey-ball spaceship thingy). The rest is cake with some great cut scenes.
Re: Thoughts on the new Star Wars movies?
I think I got past the Jawa Crawler stage once (I think the next level is a 3D one?) but yeah, that stage blows.
The thing is, in the first one almost every enemy you kill spews life hearts, whereas they're a lot rarer in Empire Strikes Back. Not that throwing hearts at the player due to the ridiculous number of cheap hits is good game design, but it made it more bearable. To me games that pull those tricks have always been the least fun, versus a game like Donkey Kong Country where you can only take two hits, and therefore the levels have to be laid out in a thoughtful way where there's always a way to get through without taking a hit.
I saw a video of someone complaining about a snowspeeder stage in SESB where they had to play it roughly 72828 times and I pretty much swore of bothering with it ever again after that.

Pac-man series aside, no one has played one level nearly 80thousand times. Especially one of the easiest levels in SESB. That level, like most of the game, is cake.
