Playing SNES Games On Super Famicom

Hey there guys I had an idea the other day and I hope that you guys can make it a reality. So I live in the United States and I have always hated the look of our SNES. I like the look of the Super Famicom so much better. Then the idea hit me why not mod a Super Famicom to play SNES games. I started to do some research on the idea and have not found anyone that has done this. Now I think the only thing that is stopping me from playing SNES games on a Super Famicom is the shape of the top where you insert the games.

So the question in this is would I just need to cut a bigger cartage slot into the Super Famicom for this idea to work?

Yup, you just need to make the slot bigger. Similarly, if you want to play SFC carts on an SNES you just have to remove the tabs from the cart slot that prevent the SFC carts from fitting in all the way. Hardware-wise the two systems are identical.

if you don't want to cut up your console you could get a region converter such as a honey bee but they tend to be rare and expensive. you could also hack up a game genie to use as a passthrough adapter.

Yup. An NTSC SNES pin adapter is what you want, but they're much rarer relatively speaking. The sole purpose is to link pins 1:1 between any combination of US and Japan/Korea games or consoles. No other functions or features of any kind. (Adaptor Wonder for N64 is a good example of this design)

Any SNES adapter with second slot to read lockout data is more aimed at Europe. While those work on an NTSC console, they'll still fail all PAL games with a 50/60 hz check.

can't judge if you'd be interested in this; but you could also buy both region versions of a given game & put the us board in the japanese cartridge/shell!
