I'm Finally getting a PS3 Where to start?

Post by TheRev »

I thought picking my initial PS3 games would be easy...NOPE.

So a few things I need to know

1. PS2 to USB Adapters what can I use? I have a Mayflash adapter will that work? If not what?

2. What's worth Importing? I'm getting Ketsui no doubt Aquapazza is also a no brainer. Initial D is a must as well. But beyond that what else?

3. Only games I'm thinking about to start out with besides what comes with this Bundles are No More Heroes, Heroes Paradise and Under Defeat HD. The Ico/Shadow of the colossus bundle looks tempting too. GT5, God of War collection (with 3) But there must be those hidden gem exclusives that nobody talks about. I'd like to pick something super unique up.

4. What Shmups are on PSN

5. What is on PSN that isn't on XBLA?

a) Aquapazza, not Aquapizza.

b) Get 3D Dot Game Heroes. You will not be disappointed.

1. Most Ps2 usb adapters will work, but they might not map the buttons correctly. You also won't have a "home" button.

3. Valkyria Chronicles! Folklore is neat too, and worth picking up if you find it cheap. That Ico/SOTC set is insanely well done, too. The games look great on it, and Ico comes with the PAL extras we didn't get in the original release.

The PS3 Bundle I'm getting comes with a remote so I'll have a Home Button there if I absolutely need it.

Reason I need an adapter is because I already have a PS2 MAS Stick and don't have room for another $165 Sanwa stick. Considering Under Defeat HD is one of my first games I'll want to use the stick right off. Plus there are some fighters I already have on 360 I may pick up. (SSFIV AE, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue) that I'll need a stick for.

Wait, you mean you won't have a Ps3 controller at all?

I'd strongly recommend just getting one of those. Some games need the sixaxis stuff.

No no It has a Duel Shock 3 and all. But in the edit of my last post you'll see what I need the PS2 adapter for.

Ah, okay. You'll probably be fine then, especially with the fighters as nearly all of them will allow you to remap the buttons.

Where to start? Plug it in? :3

The shooters on PSN are kind of the new-age shooters. Like, they're floaty, not 80s arcade style at all. You might want to stick to stuff like Thexder Neo or PixelJunk Sidescroller.

Japanese imports, only ones I got my eyes on are Okami HD (which is also in English!), and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. Everything else is already on something else. I'd also consider importing Siren Blood Curse from EU territories, if you were interested in it ... 6 part DLC isn't too appealing, personally.

In terms of games ... Folklore, Journey Collector's Edition (comes with Flow, Journey, and Flower), Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is coming out soon (if you're into KH) it's an HD version of the 1.5 and Re that was released in Japan, Valkyria Chronicles is very good, as is Ni No Kuni, Yakuza 3 is a blast, another vote for 3D Dot Game Heroes also. Heavenly Sword is good ... especially after you turn off six axis controls, Heavy Rain is a unique type of experience, there's a lot of Atlier and Disgaea games, There's also a couple Tales games that are exclusive. That's about all I can think of in terms of exclusives that aren't really mainstream titles.

Also ... from what I've tried ... I liked GT5 Prologue a lot more than the GT5 itself. The cars handle differently and everything. (Both are cheap though) And, I never liked God of War that much (I think the first one is actually not a very good game), but I thought 3 was good.

USB adapters? I never found the need. It supports all sorts of junk. Personally, I've figured spoofing Bluetooth with a USB dongle on another device and completely manipulating your control interface to be whatever you want has worked best ... but there's all sorts of compatible peripherals, but I can't suggest any, sorry.

Also ... get Uncharted, I can't recommend Uncharted enough, as a series. I think it's some of the best stuff to come out this generation. It's not just some cover shooter, or some nonsense like that, it's a legitimate progression in the action adventure genre. I would also put 2 somewhere in my 10 favorite games. (An SNES dominated list, for sure)

Make sure to go to the demo section in the PlayStation Store ... there's demos for almost all the games everyone has mentioned so far. Really get your fill and find out if this stuff is for you or not.

Update: If it comes with one of the recent remotes ... I'd suggest finding one of the original Sony remote releases ... the new ones support IR as well to act as a universal remote ... they eat batteries faster than wii remotes. The original model didn't.

Hopefully the Start/Select buttons don't end up being like L1/R1 or something that would be a problem.

I have 2 mayflash adapters ( 4 port PS2 and PS2/GC/XBOX) and a brandless clear blue 2 port PS2 Adapter.

The 4 port Mayflash I don't even use.
