The movie ending didn't make much sense, but I actually preferred the pacing and the ending in FMA. The villains in both series were pretty weak, but that's the only thing that really takes away from the awesomeness.
It's pointless though, whichever has Lan Fan will be the winner.

The manga is the definitive version.
I actually like how the original show deviates from it and does its own thing. But when I rewatched it about two years ago, I found the pacing slow and it turned me off. The movie was such a step down in quality of story that it kind of harms the rest of the series.
I think FMA Brotherhood is much better *but* those first ~13 episodes felt like they were trying to cram too much story into too few episodes (while also starting off with a totally pointless "welcome to the FMA-universe" intro episode). Maybe it's because I was familiar with things already but I felt like they lacked the emotional punch the manga/first anime had while covering the same ground. But I understand that they wanted to hurry up and get to the part that hadn't been animated before. And once they hit that, the show WINS BIG.
(Oh and skip the FMA: Brotherhood movie. It's a solid C+ movie next to an A+ TV show... kind of a waste of time!)

I Just got the TV series I don't plan to go beyond that unless the OVAs are REALLY REALLY GOOD And yes I confess, some parts (I'm on Disc 3 of set 1 now) have made me cry like a btich, FMA1 never did that. Best anime ever? Maybe not But one of the best? Defiantly.
Now if you want to see how deviating from the manga can kill show....
Just talk to this guy

Good LORD the last like 2/3rds of that show got BAD, REAL BAD.
The new OVA also compresses alot into 2 episodes. As a result it's not AS good.

I've got a friend who I get to hang out with every few months, and when we do I've been showing her FMA: Brotherhood. We had seen FMA back in college, so I started her off around episode 13 since we'd already seen all the early worldbuilding stuff in the original series, and I thought the original did it better pacing-wise. But since then it's been an awesome ride for her. And she's been lucky that she hasn't hand to deal with as many cliffhangers as I did when I was watching the weekly fansubs.Nemoide wrote:I think FMA Brotherhood is much better *but* those first ~13 episodes felt like they were trying to cram too much story into too few episodes (while also starting off with a totally pointless "welcome to the FMA-universe" intro episode). I find Gundam to be very boring. If not depressing (08th MS Team)

I'm about halfway through Zeta. Maybe I'll do a binge next weekend and plow through the rest.

Attack on Titan is looking like this year's Sword Art Online, but at least it is watchable, unlike SAO. Definitely shonen shit. But enjoyable shonen shit so far.
