To be fair, N64 emulation is still kinda a nasty mess.BitFaced wrote:I don't know if it's definitely unpopular, but for all those people saying to use emulators instead of an original system try playing Conkers Bad Fur Day on an emulator. I've tried a few consoles and computers (the latter being more high tech) but I've always had problems that don't appear in normal gameplay (Example: Conker's eyebrows) or sometimes not getting the game to run at all (*Cough* Wii64 *Cough*). I say screw that, and get the real thing. If I'm going to play this game, I'm going to play it properly.

N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

I don't think it's that unpopular an opinion to say that you'd rather play the original over an emulator, but I could be wrong.BitFaced wrote:I don't know if it's definitely unpopular, but for all those people saying to use emulators instead of an original system try playing Conkers Bad Fur Day on an emulator. Even if it costs a great deal of money I'd almost always opt for the original over an emulated version.
Plus N64 emulation is a mess with all the plugins and compatibility problems and I don't understand why. Gamecube and Wii emulation is more stable than N64.

I've had good luck with Project64 + a USB controller adapter. I'd still rather play the real thing though, as N64 games are generally cheap and easy to find.

If you're just sticking to say, the most popular 10 or so games on the N64, you'll probably be fine with most n64 emulators. The problem is that they're really "hacky," keep in mind most of these emulators started a good decade ago with the goal of getting N64 games running on 500mhz PCs.
I haven't kept up with that stuff in a while though, I don't know if it's gotten any better.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I never played Conker on an emulator, but I have played many N64 games that ran fine. Many that ran better on the PC than on the console. Also emulation leads to some interesting additions, like enabling games to run at 60fps:
While 2d experiences may be a toss up, 3d games, specifically early 3d games, are far better emulated, mostly thanks to modern Anti-Aliasing. Even if there are some graphical issues.

Yeah N64 emulation is pretty okay at this point. Most games run decently with occasional glitches. However, there are no currently active projects so who knows how long it'll be until it gets better.

Project 64 v2.1 came out May 1st of this year, so I'd say that's pretty current. No real interest in trying it out myself, but eh.Dylan wrote:Yeah N64 emulation is pretty okay at this point. Oh wow, I thought Project64 had died after being inactive for so long. It's cool that it's in development again.AppleQueso wrote:Project 64 v2.1 came out May 1st of this year, so I'd say that's pretty current. I haven't had much issues with any n64 games being emulated. I don't play many, and they're not spot on, but very playable.
