Xbox 360 USB inputs lacking???

Post by mjmjr25 »

So I finally got around to some 4p 360 action w/my kids and our arcade sticks...but there aren't enough USB ports?

I thought there were 4, but there are only 3 and then another port that looks like a USB port but has one of the 4 corners rounded off and the USB doesn't fit in that one.

Are there really only 3 ports on a 4p console? I'm baffled right now.

Not too mention, my monitor doesn't have speakers, so the external speakers need to run through the 360...via USB port.

In addition to that, the Skylanders portal has a USB input.

So, if my kids want to play skylanders - they have to play 1p with this setup:
port 1 - arcade stick
port 2 - usb portal for skylanders
port 3 - usb speakers

That's it? What am I missing?

I guess you're missing a USB hub?

If it's a non slim 360, the back port is intended for the add on wireless adapter. There are only 2 USB ports because you're supposed to be using wireless controllers and have the sound going out with the AV/HDMI connector OMG YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

But yeah, you'll need a USB hub.

USB hubs work on the 360? I did not know that. I guess I will have to invest in one, because I'm tired of pulling the console out of the cabinet to get at the back ports.

A four-port USB2 hub shouldn't cost more than $7 I think.

Gotcha, gotcha - thanks. (yes, it's a slim)

Grabbed an amazon basics 4 port hub - I figured something like this existed, but wanted to make sure some usb hubs just weren't hiding on me on the 360 itself.

I wish the PS3 had more USB ports. Four would be good, but two? Come on Sony.

The backwards compatible models actually did have 4 USB slots. They also had an sd card slot too I believe.

Don't most USB hubs require power? Does anyone know if the 360 supplies power to the USB ports? I swear someone had wanted to get a hub for something but the USB didn't supply power.

Edit obviously they do since you can charge controllers.
