clearly that's what's going on here. this is really disheartening for some reason. just..fuck. i'm sure he probably set the reserve at 100,000 or something equally ridiculous just to cover his ass.

Okay I think at this point the guy is just showing off.

I bet he doesn't intend to actually sell it.

then I hope he wins his own auction if his intent really is to sell this for absolute maximum profit.

On a happier note, since he is new to ebay as his listing states, I would pay to see the look on his face when he pays 9% of the ending price in auction fees, which at this point, would total $1,358.99.

Maybe that's the whole point of this? He seems intent on cashing in on this (Or maybe just showing off, as suggested), maybe he set the reserve so unrealistically high so he could get the highest bid possible and then try to conduct the actual transaction offline and away from ebays fees. Very much against ebays terms but this guy made an account solely for this item, I doubt he gives a crap about the rules.

Don't you still have to pay some sort of fee if the reserve is not met?

The seller may incur listing fees if anything. However, if the seller decides to accept the highest offer and completes the sale, i would think seller fees most definitely apply.

I've been messing around with the calculator, and it seems that there is a fee equal to the reserve price divided by 1000. I had to enter a selling price, so I don't know how this would change if it didn't sell.

Welp, it ended at $15,500 even with the reserve not met in case any are wondering.

Well, it's all over now, $15,500 and no reserve met. I was hoping for some last second crazy high sniper bids but it didn't happen. next question is will this guy take it or try to do something else with the Pluto?
