Exactly. I'm looking for something that has the general feel of the comics, not necessarily something that follows every detail. That's why I defend movies like Green Lantern that most comic book fans hate.

Well, I see both sides of the issue. I understand that just like Comics, there can be multiple versions, or takes on the hero. (Amazing, Spectacular, Web Of, Ultimate 1/2, 2099, Spider-man, etc) So a film can be considered another universe for said comic hero. So maybe the origin is slightly different.

But, on the other hand, sometimes heroes (or villains as the case may be) are so beloved that fans really prefer to have a more 'canon' origin.

I mean, having Joker ("Jack Napier") kill Martha and Thomas Wayne? That's a big difference to the origin of both Batman and Joker. It wasn't a small change. Having Peter Parker bitten by a 'genetically modified' spider rather than an irradiated one is different, but still in keeping with the original 'feel' of Spidey's origin.

That goes to what I said about comics and films being two different animals. In the comics, the Waynes were murdered by some random thug (retroactively named Joe Chill years later). In the film, having Batman and The Joker essentially create each other and exploring the psychology of such a relationship (superficial as the exploration may be) makes for an excellent story, so who cares if it's not "canon"?

Just because the popular opinion is that it sucks, that doesn't mean that everyone thinks so. Seriously, if you wanna say that "Howard The Duck" is one of the worst movies ever, I won't argue (although I kinda like it personally), but Green Lantern is not that bad.

Admittedly though, there was also an Elektra spinoff made after Daredevil.

Anyway, the issue I believe BurningDoom has is a similar one that I had with Bane: taking a major villain and reducing him to the role of a henchman. Sure, it can work if the script is done really well, but at the same time it makes me feel like a character has been stepped on and denied a bit. Would you guys be ok with accepting that Magneto is really Omega Red's henchman? Maybe, if the film is written well, but I feel it kinda kills part of Magneto's character.

But again, these are all minor gripes. The changing of The Mandarin was more than a minor complaint like "That's not Joker's origin". It would be more like "Joker is a whimpering pussy that can't even attack Batman." Even though Joker's origin was changed, he was still the Joker. He still was a threat to Batman, and remained his arch-nemesis. Not the case with the Mandarin, now is it?

You guys are acting like I'm upset about a simple change in the character. The entire freaking character is an entirely different character. And he's a MAJOR character in the Iron Man mythos.

Like I said, people who love the character. The beauty of Joker is that no one knew where he came from. Sure he's got origins now but originally he just showed up and started kicking ass. The Dark Knight film pretty much nailed him and his 'origin'. Burton's Batman was good for its time, but even as a 12 year old kid I thought it was odd that some douche named Jack Napier 'turned into' Joker.

Bringing him down to the level of common (even named) street thug gone super villain cheapens the character. People care if one of their favorite characters is cheapened.

BTW, what was wrong with Iron Man 2? I thought it conveyed the alcoholism storyline pretty dang well, which was a major part of Iron Man's history.
