HD Collection Annoyance
Re: HD Collection Annoyance
If you haven't played these games yet, then why are you even considering this? Will you suddenly find plenty of spare time and the initiative to play through these games? Unlikely.

And while HD Collections may indeed be more convenient for some...
I'd much rather copy my games to a Hard Drive and rock them OPL style on a Phat PS2.
Fast load times, change games without disc-swapping, etc., there's just too much value there.
I save my PS3 for the games I can't play elsewhere.
Plus, as far as the game collection goes, I just love having originals most of the time.
With a soft modded Ps3 you could do this too...

I suppose, but then you lose PSN/store access too, right? A bit harder to come by systems on the right firmware too (and a real pain to mod if not).
Anyway, PS2 is still the way to go for me for the applicable titles. I don't have to worry as much about that system just up and dying on me either. Convenience AND peace of mind.

...just another lost soul...

Re: HD Collection Annoyance
I have been slowly upgrading my PS2 games to the HD collections and selling off the PS2 versions. Space is a concern for me, so taking the Sly collection, Ratchet and Clank Collection, Devil May Cry collections from 9 discs down to 3 is a decent space savings. There is a lot of opportunity to move to less space with all the HD collections out there right now. In some cases I have made way more money by upgrading my new/sealed PS2 versions to a used PS3 version of the collection than the cost of the PS3 version. I think the only thing I might miss on the PS2 versions is the inability to use any codebreaker/gameshark type cheat devices on the games if I wanted to cheat or tinker around with the disc and unlock things.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that. And I have no idea how my amount of free time is relevant here either.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

This is why I like the older consoles, a tool that can be used to see everything hidden in a game.

Re: HD Collection Annoyance
One that thing gripes me about some of these collections is, for example, the Resistance trilogy collection, the first 2 games come in the "greatest hits" cases. It's not a huge thing, but a minor grievance as I hate those things, haha.
Another is when they include games as DLC instead of on the disc. I think the God of War collection had the 2 psp games as DLC instead of on the disc (I also believe those codes expire at some point).

Space is a huge concern for me as I am constantly trying to consolidate my things. So if I can get something that will have 2-3 games in one blu ray case and be able to free up that shelf space, unless the collection is botched, it is basically an instant buy for me. Updated visuals or whatever other bells are whistles are nice, but really it's the space saving that attracts me to these releases.
It may sound insignificant, but at the moment I have 9 HD Collections totaling at 27 games, which is significant for me.
I just wish we would start getting some PS2 RPG collections.

XENOSAGA
Imagine if they fine tuned translations, gave us dual audio options, uncensored (anything that may have been cut), added movie viewer options, etc for JRPG's. Damn that'd be too awesome.
We've had many threads over this before. I'm a fan for the convenience and being able to easily play things on my HDTV that look technically correct. I actually just finished up playing RE4 HD for the first time and it was a blast, along with looking fantastic to me. Not sure why some ragged on that one apparently. DMC HD is also top notch and now I'm pretty tempted to finally crack open the MGS collection. Really wish Capcom would give us one for Onimusha.
Unless we're getting absurd broken promises or Silent Hill treatments, I don't see how HD collections can be bad in any sense. All in one conveniences, space saver, easy access for new fans that may have missed out on said series, etc.
