That's probably true. I never really bothered to count.

In Shining Force I waited until level 20 to promote everyone, but getting to level 40 in this one is kind of a chore. I waited until level 30 to promote everyone though, which I don't think broke the difficulty at all. It's what I would recommend, but I'm a bit excited to see what happens when people start reaching the southern peninsula.

Why? Do things get tougher there?

There are a few tough fights. Shining Force 2 has several boss type battles.

Not to mention the Chess fight.

Yeah, that's the one I was driving at. I beat it on my first attempt with unpromoted characters, but I knew vaguely of it ahead of time. I'm curious to see how experiences differ.

Ok,
seriously with the fucking Kraken? Damn.

I killed a handful of tentacles but I was still overwhelmed. What the hell is a Kraken doing in a river anyway?

I looked for some info about this fight and found there are a couple of other battles I can do and weapons to get before dealing with this asshole, so I think that's what I'll do.

I figure I can probably kill it immediately by going for the head (I did this by accident in the previous battle with the Master Mage), but that would definitely require sacrificing some people, and you know what? Screw that. I'm pissed, and now I want to dominate him.
This post might not sound like it (I have sworn vengeance  ), but I'm really enjoying the game.

This is one of the first real tough battles in the game. It is basically a level check as well too. The good thing is that the tentacles and arms give good exp. So you can kill a few and egress and level up a bit.

You are making fairly quick progress. If you dont want to miss out on a secret character, make sure to refer to a guide for some things you were supposed to do in bird town.

There is a super easy way to cheese this fight, but a warning, the video contains spoilers to anyone who hasn't reached this part yet

Just got Slade and I'm heading out of the dungeon. Seems pretty enjoyable so far to me as well!

Ooo, secret character eh? I'll have to do that for sure.

Yeah it was definitely a kick in the nuts, especially since I was cruising right along beforehand.

Well now, that's quite interesting. Its tempting to do this immediately and just move on, but I do still want to fight those other battles first.

Still, that's pretty cool, and I'll probably do this when I get back to him so that I can laugh at his pain. Thanks for the link.
