Thanks! yeah I'm very relieved that whole SEGA thing finally blew over, too bad it has completely tarnished my view of them now as they were a big part of my childhood.
And yes I really want to do Iron Storm and I think I'm almost finished with my "get to know it run" so barring any unforeseen circumstances I will be playing it after my kingdom hearts runs

Once a character reaches level 20 they can be promoted. However, they can continue to gain levels up to level 40, if you want to take an easy game and make it trivial.

I thought it was 10/20 like in fire emblem for promotion...

Nope, 20/40. But it's a much longer game compared to Shining Force 1, so you promote at about the same point, storyline-wise.
