I hate how theyre trying to make realistic graphics, this has only caused for the physics of games to try and be life like. Its making everything be more normal in gaming. GAMES SHOULDNT BE NORMAL! Characters look like Dbags, fantasy games make the characters look ridiculous for having odd looking weapons which look more like flowers than swords. I prefer 2D games that look like cartoons. If I founded a gaming company none of the games would take place on Earth, graphics would all be pre-PS2 style, and no humans would be in it, especially ones from Earth.

They've been pushing for "realism" in games since pretty much the beginning.

Hell the entire selling point of the Intellivision was how much more 'realistic' it looked compared to Atari.

I didn't care for Paper Mario at all. I was bored to tears within seconds. It couldn't grab my attention at all. I don't think I got very far before I yawned and gave up. While many RPGs have soporific moments, I tend to find the cutesy ones to be some of the worst.

I absolutely hate voice acting in video games. I think it just barely works in games like Metal Gear Solid or Fable, but overall, voice acting is just unbearable.

Soporific? I thought you meant sophomoric and mistyped it, but soporific is a word. U dun teached I somefin. No seriously, I love learning new words.

So I agree with the first point, but couldn't disagree more about the second. I LOVE voice acting in games! Lately a lot of newer games I play for the story and a huge part of that is how the story is acted. I know you don't play a lot of newer stuff, but I don't know what a game like The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite would gain from losing VA. Actually speaking of Bioshock, go back to System Shock 2 and have no voice to SHODAN? That direction for her is huge on the atmospheric tension in that game.

This makes me think of another opinion (not sure if it is unpopular or not): I wish there were no games with a silent protagonist. I wish Gordon Freeman talked.

I only played the n64 version of Paper Mario but I thought it was really boring. There wasn't much depth to the game at all, very bare bone to me imo. The characters were also lame.

You seriously want Gordon Freeman to remain silent? Is it one of those things where he does talk, but it isn't vocalized to the player? Otherwise why anyone would be invested in him as a character in that world? Is he signing to the other people and we just can't see? If this is an ad for ASL, I'm all for it.

I'm not invested in Link or Gordon Freeman. I am Link and Gordon Freeman.

So you're in the camp that thinks he isn't silent and it is your imagination as to what you would've said? I don't feel like the protag being silent adds to my immersion or thinking I am the character, it's just makes me annoyed when he doesn't respond to Alyx in any meaningful way other than his actions. I mean wouldn't he need to be of unknown gender to truly be able to be a vessel?

At this point, adding a voice would also be basically impossible. Even among those that weren't horrified that he spoke, There would be about 7 people happy with the chosen voice.

Oh yeah totally, I mean you can't now. Not that we're ever getting Half-Life 3 or even a HL2: Ep3.
