Silent Hill: Homecoming

Post by Ack »

Ok, so who else picked it up? Anybody a big fan of the Silent Hill series? Feel like discussing the new games pros/cons in comparison to the rest of the series?

Only one I ever liked was the first. Tried 2 and 3 quite a bit, and tried 4 and Origins real quick. The first one is the only one that did things right as far as I'm concerned. I love the soundtracks to all of them though.

Sadly, the first one's the only one I haven't beaten...of course, then again, it's also the only one I don't own...

Actually, I enjoyed 2 and 3 a good bit. 4 was experimental, but most of what they tried fell pretty flat. Origins...it had its perks, but it never did feel right. I liked a couple of enemy designs, and the ability for a weapon to break was pretty cool, but the shear number of them kept me from ever really having a problem. And most of Origins felt rehashed. Homecomings an interesting take from an obviously American company. Some of it is needless rehash, and the feel of the game has become more western. Still, I feel the new combat system's justifiable with the character, even if he doesn't have much in the way of personality.

I consider myself a big fan of Silent Hill having all the games in the series and all the comics and various collectables. Parts 1,2 and 3 were great with 4 being the experimental Black Sheep of the Japanese developed games. Origins was great for a PSP game but was obviously western developed. Homecoming so far is a big disappointment for me, but I'm only 6 hours into it so far. I knew it wasn't going to be as good as previous entries but I didn't think they would have messed it up that bad. The first thing I noticed was the graphics, if you took away the grain filter you would have PS2 quality graphics. Silent Hill is known for its attention to detail when it comes to graphics, immersion and puzzles and they are all lacking. You can really tell this was rushed out of the door and hasn't been fine tuned, it sucks because I was looking forward to playing this for a long time. Its a real step back for the series IMO.:(

I've always had an interest in this series, but all I've ever played is a demo for the first one. That was one creepy school

Most people I've known say 2 is the best, Gamerforlife, so if you're interested in picking one up, go for that one. I was always partial to 3 myself, and on a funny note I look a lot like the main character from 4...was even doing the same job he's got when it came out.

The puzzles seem...awkward in Homecoming. The wiring puzzle in particular was a bit...odd. Visually it looks just like the movie. In fact, one of the biggest criticisms I've seen is that it's Silent Hill: Homecoming: the Movie: the Game. The environments seem sparse and kinda forced in a lot of respects. I like the enemy design, and especially their reactions. Watching the way some of them twist when smacked with the metal pipe? Classic. Also, the death sequences for them are pretty brutal, to the point I winced the first time I saw some of them. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play(been watching my girlfriend. I've been stuck doing homework for grad school all this past week, and probably will be stuck working on it constantly for another week. I wish I could play...), so I can't give exact impressions on controls or anything. Oh, and is it just me, or is this the sparsest game in terms of furniture and bizarre stuff in the Hell World than any other? It seems pretty bare to me.

Huge silent hill fan here and kept telling myself i wasn't going to buy it because i knew a western team would screw it up.......but, i bought it and it is pretty crappy...it really pisses me off! the only saving grace this game has is the music...and what do you know Akira from the original team did that! just play siren on ps3 if you want your scare fix.

I just got the asian version in disk form from playasia. Its identical to the U.S downloadable version "including text and voice" minus the crappy install times between each episode. I you get it go for the asian disk version its a great game.
