It means that you're more likely to find like-minded people who won't insult and/or belittle you for being who you are. (Like calling you a "faggot" online when they suck and don't win.) It means that people can feel comfortable coming together and discussing gaming without having to tear down the walls of "heterosexual privilege" first. /serious

Since you aren't gay, it probably seems silly to you.

It's a lot of effort if your collection is huge and you just signed up for RFGen, sure. I set up an account when my collection was still pretty tiny, and I add games as soon as I purchase/test them.

How do you know? Are gay people somehow part of a gay overmind that makes all of them share the same opinions?

It seems silly to me because whoever you have sex with has nothing to do with games. In fact, I find the idea that they might be somehow related to be quite nauseating.

To be fair, the representation of homosexuality or alternate sexuality in video games isn't always kind.

It certainly isn't. I just find silly to base your entire identity as a critic or writer in that fact that you fuck a certain kind of person. It's something that has always irked me.

To be fair here, most random strangers online will call you a "faggot" when they lose to you whether you're actually gay or not. :P

But yeah, I can see that.

It might not, but it does have plenty to do with how you interact with gamer communities in general and how they're likely to perceive and treat you.

In your world, when you walk into a room, you can be reasonably confident that the majority of people in the room are similar to you -- heterosexual. Men like, lust over and objectify the ladies, and the ladies like, lust over and prostrate themselves in front of men. Merely being heterosexual shapes nearly everything about how you interact with the people in that room. How you talk to them, the things you say, the jokes you share. How you enjoy your games. The fact that you are heterosexual permeates your entire life, it is related to everything that you do, everyone that you talk to and every game that you play.

So why would it be different for a homosexual person?

Being heterosexual or homosexual extends beyond "who you have sex with".
