It took five years for Yotsubane to create Crimzon Clover for PC, bringing it to arcades only took another two. This bullet hell shooter is a doujin game or an indie title from Japan. Crimzon Clover has a standard rapid fire shot, an essential tool for destroying waves of enemies, and a lock on attack. Hold lock on down and you target enemies with a laser that hones in on targets kind of like Raystorm. The downside is locking on slows your ship down. You also have a Break button that either releases a bullet clearing bomb or makes your ship hyper powerful depending how much meter you have. This interview with Yostuba is a good read if you want to know more about Crimzon Clover and the Japanese indie scene.
Crimzon Clover came out for PC in 2011. It just made its arcade debut with Taito’s NESiCAxLive network features built in. The game has also been rebalanced for arcades.

Crimzon Clover makes it to the arcade!
Re: Crimzon Clover makes it to the arcade!
We just finished playing it for April on the Shmup of The Month thread. It was great, exceeded all my expectations, and for what was originally a doujin, was very professionally made.

I totally missed out on CC month. I haven't felt like shmupping as of late.
But yeah, it is a great game! Great production values. I think I like it more than most of the CAVE stuff I've played.

This is indeed very awesome. Would love to give the arcade version a shot, I really enjoy the PC game.
Its odd how many comparisons between Cave and CC I see, yet how little comparisons to stuff like Soukyugurentai, Rayforce, or Kamui I see, even though it makes much more sense to me to compare these games, since they work more similarly.

Yea. I see Terra Diver and DDP to some extent.

Crimson Clover is nothing like Dodonpachi.
So, is this the first time a PC-exclusive shmup has been ported to the arcades? It must be very exciting for Yotsubane.

I haven't delved into the CC scoring system, to be honest. But the hyper system reminds me of it somewhat. Only partially in function and a little more in appearance.dunpeal2064 wrote:Crimson Clover is nothing like Dodonpachi.

Trouble Witches was first, I believe.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Trouble Witches! Did Nessica do that one? I think Nessica also recently ported Akai Katana's arrange mode to the arcades as well, so hopefully this will be a new trend!
The Break system dose have a "Hyper" feel to it, but there are no Hypers in Dodonpachi

I never play DDP. I was thinking the series. DOJ and DFK have em. Does SDOJ?

DocHauser tried it out. He said it was cool. I'll give it a whirl later this month when I go back over there. It'll probably be hard to find, but it will be at Taito's HEY for sure.
