ShmupMAME 3.0 - 2

My old standby - I felt like if nothing else, I could get to stage 2 with this beast, granted wouldn't have any tunes. I strapped on my helmet, fired up my cockpit, got ready for takeoff..."Kapersky does not recognize this file". Whoa, that sounds tricky, not sure how to score that, tried an end around and redownloaded the 3.0 beast, but no go.

ShmupMAME 4.2 - 1
mjmjr25 - 0
Ok, ok now this one was challenging - this run never really took off, he wanted me to install an extra downloader ship called "livid" which my windows 8 co-pilot refused to do, said it was a suicide mission, even though I told him I wanted to "ignore" his warnings.

ShmupMAME 4.2 (win64 cq) - 1
mjmjr25 - 0
This is a tough bastard, watch out for the "unable to extract all files" boss, he's a bastard.

MAME - 2
mjmjr25 - 0
This was a close one, it really had a nice intro screen, I was able to dodge into the user interface and get all my VLX responding but I went to far into the black and decided to tell me "this rom is missing one more chp somthing or others"

I'm done for the month.

My advice: Just buy CCC2 on oXbox or PS2.

CCC2 has respawning @ death and autofire automatic.
Well that will skew the results some. I think folks will need to indicate version/region for the game and we should set up different tables to track score. I think the US MAME ROM respawns upon death, the Japanese MAME ROM kicks you back to a checkpoint upon death, and neither has true autofire (you have about 2 seconds of fire per press).

No need for different tables. If the Capcom Collection version has respawning and autofire, then anyone playing on MAME just needs to play the US or World version and allow autofire there too (whether it's a setting on your control pad or the autofire option in shmupmame). Unless someone actually owns a Japanese PCB, then I don't think there's really a need to include the Japan version.

For some reason the US and World ROMs won't load on my cabinet, just on my desktop :x The JPN ROM loads on both.

I may just play the CCC2 version, but I think autofire enabled by default is cheese when the arcade version doesn't have it turned on by default...it removes a skill/endurance element.

Well, the world record uses autofire (15M on the JPN version) and it seems that the shmups forum scores are with auto-fire too, so it seems to be standard practice.

If someone wants to borrow (i'll pay ship both ways of course) or sell ccc2 for oxbox, hit me up w/a pm, please.

I won't waste another minute of my time on MAME though - just too frustrated. Not sure if it's Windows 8 or whatnot, but i'm just done w/messing w/it.

That's one standard practice there that irritates me...it is not playing the game as it was originally designed.

Since I don't use shmupmame, I can't easily turn on autofire. So, I'll have to play the CCC2 version :(

I'm with you here. If there was a set standard for auto-fire rates, and if it was built into a wider variety of Mame builds, that would be nice, but I'm not a fan of it as it is. How do I know what rate to set my auto-fire at? Considering you can hit higher speeds of fire in this game by mashing the button as fast as possible, is it acceptable to have your auto at this max rate?

I don't have shmupmame OR CCC2, so looks like I'm just gonna gimply compete with you folks.

Is the argument for enabling/allowing auto-fire simply "I don't want to tire my fingers" or "rapid pressing is annoying"? As far as I am concerned auto-fire is cheating. It is nice to have it as an option, sure...but if you are trying to compete in a way that is faithful to the game's arcade release and can be compared to those playing the PCB, why implement this feature?
