I would disagree with the generation you stop at, but generally yes, I agree with this statement. With the WiiU already out, and the PS4 and Microsoft Whatchamacallit coming out in the upcoming months, that generation will be two steps away(which is where the N64, Saturn, and PS1 were when I joined this forum five years ago).o.pwuaioc wrote:With this being a retro forum, I also vote for only retro RPGs. A flexible schedule makes sense to me too.
Then...I'd like to suggest...Valkyrie Profile...

For PS1 and PSP.

If you can't dedicate at least an hour a day to the RPG of the Month Club then GTFO!prfsnl_gmr wrote:That is still a lot of time for some of us, and I think that three-month periods would result in a higher participation rate.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I think bi-monthly would work well. Less than an hour of gameplay a day over the course of two months and you could still beat a 50 hour rpg that way.
That said, if the group wants to go with bi-monthly, I will try to keep up, but I think my participation (and the participation of other member's with constrained schedules) will be limited to shorter games.

I guess I'm just 2hardcore4u noobs.
I actually just have way too much free time
Thinking it over again, I think a flexible schedule would work best. RPGs vary so much in length. I don't think anybody could take three months to beat Shining Force, which can be beaten in 15 or so hours if you're well versed in SRPGs, but it would be unreasonable to try and go through, say, Strange Journey in only a month or two.

Older. Not wiser.

Still haven't finished Baldur's Gate, though I've made it through all the ToSC content. So I guess that's an "I'm in" and a vote for quarterly. I try to spend at least as much time on a modern RPG my GF will enjoy spectating, so retro RPGs take some time for me to complete. Hopefully there's interest in doing more western CRPGs.

I'd certainly be interested.

Yeah I don't know about that one... The PS1 version is rare to the point that I'd basically consider it a PSP exclusive and not everyone has a PSP.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:A flexible schedule makes sense to me too.

Something like Phantasy Star II would be perfect - available on Genesis, Saturn, GBA, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
I like the idea of at least one Western RPG too - so many are available on GOG and other services these days.

Grandia!
I like this idea. I'd say quarterly for me, since I still keep busy with other games and stuff.

Re: Together RPG of the month or quarter club?
Bi-Monthly. Simply because if you enjoy the game, then you will put some more time into it. If it turns out to be a stinker then it isn't too long to wait for a new challenge.
I'm a complete RPG rookie really, so any game would more than likely be "new", but i think for RPG fans a good mixture of slightly overlooked or unique titles will keep things fresh. Too many FF's and such, and it may put the RPG fans off because its all old ground.
My 2 cents for what its worth.
Count me in though, no matter what, because I need to jump into the RPG thing. This would be a great way to do it with some support for someone who always chickens out at the sight of turn based combat and endless leveling up

I would love to do an RPG bi monthly thing. That would totally be the shit. I have our first game in mind!
