A lot of hardcore Pirates! fans think so. Pirates! Gold is cooler though. That's a better game.racketboy wrote:Was that the best version of Pirates!?
I used to have that machine and a Vic-20 back in the 80's, but now I play those games on my M-Xbox..
Also, that system had some of the illest sounds coming from a chip (chip-music) anywhere..
Try listening to the "Commando" theme to see what Imean..

Well my first machine was a C64 (well a C128) - so I love the thing
and a good few of its games are still enjoyable:
Uridium - great side scrolling shooter
Paradroid - emm robot shooter thingy
Armalyte - another side scroll shmup
IO - another side scrolling shmup
Any of the LucasfilM 'fractal' games: Rescue On Fractalus, Koronis Rift, Eidolon
Wizball - kinda hard to explain - bouncing ball shooter :p
Bounder - vert scrolling tennis ball game
Encounter - 3d tank game
Mercenary - a very early wireframe 3d game
there are more great games but Im too tired to think
And as Lan-Di said - the sound chip (SID Chip) on the C64 was amazing - some of the music for the games were great - esp Zoids and Nemesis
download sidplayer to have a listen
theres even a synth using the chip nowadays:

Anywayz - I cant wait to get that Wii - all those emulators, plus Gamecube compatability

Top of the entire list would probably be M.U.L.E. -- although, the afficianado will refer you to the Atari 800 for the best experience. This tends to apply to all the Dani Bunton games -- great on the C64, best on an Atari.
Infocoms are still a blast.
