Underrated Rpgs?
Re: Underrated Rpgs?
Has anyone mentioned Beyond Oasis yet? I don't think it's under-rated, but it's definitely under-discussed. It wouldn't come up on a list of essential RPGs right away, that's for sure. It was a real surprise for me.

^This. Even though i never finished it, i found FFV to be one of the more enjoyable Final Fantasies since it didn't take itself too seriously and the Job system is really fun. When it was released in the Anthologies I think people were just upset at the localization.ExedExes wrote:I will defend FFV to the bloody end. Had it received the proper translation it was to originally get, it might have been received better. Playing it through again on the GBA, there is great character interactions, battles, and who can not like the job system? Endless possibilities.

I'm going to say, Jade Empire. It was always in the shadow of KOTOR, but on its own merits its a magnificent game.

I really enjoyed Blue Dragon. One of the best RPGs this gen.CavZee wrote:Blue Dragon maybe? Might get some flak for this one though, lol.
I just seemed to enjoy that game so much more than I did Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia for some reason. So I guess that makes it my favorite RPG on the 360 at least.

Dark Cloud on the PS2 certainly comes to mind. For some reason it seems to get forgotten among all other rpgs which is a shame because it is a pretty fun action rpg and you also get to micro manage how you want the towns to look like after you save the inhabitants. The game also features a interesting weapon upgrade system. As some of you know it also had a sequel and it is apparently even better.

Suikoden/II/III. Sure, II is a cult classic now, but few people ever played or cared about the series around the release of these three games. Easily my favorite RPGs, ever. Mother-f-ing Breath of Fire V. Woefully underrated, simply because it doesn't follow the style of the first four, but hands down, my favorite in the series. I don't love them, but early Tales games seem pretty underrated to me. (Phantasia/Destiny/ Eternia.) For a modern underrated RPG, End of Eternity. (I forgot what it's called in the US.)
If we're really including action RPGs, then Ragnacenty (Crusaders of Centy) the Monster World series, and Elemental Gimmick Gear. Seiken Densetsu (Final Fantasy Adventure) is a really great game that I don't think that many people every really played. I'd also have to second Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and Dark Cloud.

That's the one. I wonder if it would have been more widely regarded if the tri-ace logo were prominently featured on the cover instead of the SEGA logo. They took a lot of risks in the gameplay, that I feel worked really well. It would be nice if they were better rewarded for it.AppleQueso wrote:Resonance of Fate.pierrot wrote:For a modern underrated RPG, End of Eternity. (I forgot what it's called in the US.)
Also, I don't understand the name change.

I'm also a fan of Beyond Oasis. And I still think Robotrek is a fun, underrated RPG.ExedExes wrote:Has anyone mentioned Beyond Oasis yet? Soul Blazer on SNES. This game is starting to get a bit more recognition nowadays, but I've been playing it since I was a kid, and it is a superb action RPG in the vein of Zelda with some VERY awesome music.
