o.p: It's much easier to pick it up and play and get some satisfaction with it compared to SA. There's much more linear design in it, which makes it less confusing. I had enough interest to go through a few levels at a time. The control scheme is pretty decent too, though there's still some frustrating moments--it could just be the game being over ten years old at this point. Pick it up and play it a little, I don't think you'll be disappointed, but I don't know if you'll ever revisit it if you beat it.
If you have a PS3/Xbox 360 (which I think you said Wii is the most-new console you have), you could download a trial of SA2 I think, but that point is moot.
OH! Have PSO? SA2 demo came with that game as a bonus demo disc!

I don't really play modern games - as you noted - so I don't think "old controls" will be a problem. I don't however have a PS3, 360, or PSO. I got burned on SA1 (which will be visiting my BST thread soon) and Sonic Colors DS/Sonic Rush DS, so I don't want to make the same mistake with SA2. I do like the idea of it being more pick up and play than SA1, so maybe I'll try to find a cheap copy or finally splurge on PSO.Blu wrote:The control scheme is pretty decent too, though there's still some frustrating moments--it could just be the game being over ten years old at this point. I totally know how you feel. I revisited Sonic Adventure recently (I beat it in high school to completion) and I don't know why it was so challenging to get back into it the second time around. It wasn't horrible, I just didn't have the same level of enjoyment I had with it the first time. PSO v.1 if you get a complete copy comes with a demo of SA2, then again SA2 is probably around 20-30 bucks, if you want to splurge.o.pwuaioc wrote: I don't really play modern games - as you noted - so I don't think "old controls" will be a problem. Re: Sonic Advetnure vs Sonic Adventure 2
I loved SA2 back when I got it new for my Dreamcast, it seemed like the greatest game ever back then. When I tried to go back to it recently, only the Sonic/Shadow stages were enjoyable. I game it a real shot, but the scavenger hunt levels with knuckles were a bore. The robot tails levels were just too linear, and it just came down to hold the button to lock onto everyone, fire missles, repeat. Then you get a 2 minute taste of awesomeness with a Sonic level. I tried to find a cheat or something that would allow level select (as my original saves were long gone) but to no avail. Maybe there is a gameshark code or something...
As for SA1, the first level is one of my most memorable moments in gaming, being blown away by the graphics. I was at my aunts, they had just gotten a DC, and I played the demo disc that came with it. My jaw was on the floor the whole level, and I could not believe that graphics could look that good (I was still going strong on my N64). When I finally got to play the full game, I never got too far, im not sure if I got stuck, or what, but I dont ever remember getting past the cabin thing at the top of that mountain (I am sure this is very early in the game).
Oh, and Escape from the City is one of my favorite video game songs ever, apart from some select tracks on Jet Grind Radio.

o.pwuaioc wrote:So, I'm not sure if I want to check out Sonic Adventure 2. I didn't care for even the early parts of SA1, though I didn't get far because I got bored, and then when I got confused, it wasn't worth the effort to figure out. I'm pretty sure it's just because it's a 3D Sonic, but I'm curious about ZeroAx's devotion to SA2. Would I - who so loved the original trilogy (considering 3 and K to be 1 and the same) - like SA2 if I didn't care for SA1 at all? How, besides buying and trying, can I figure out whether it's for me?
Here's the thing. The Sonic/Shadow levels are the best 3D Sonic gameplay ever made imo, with the exception of both character's last levels (cause they are mostly made up of grinds). The Tails/Knuckles levels? Well.....I put up with them I guess, cause the Sonic/Shadow ones are so good.
Solution? Unlock all levels, and then go to the level select screen and only replay the Sonic/Shadow stages
