The shmup lover is a strange and complicated beast. We tolerate them because shmups are considered video games, and gamers are an oddly welcoming bunch. There's no accounting for taste though. When someone professes to like Sine Mora, you simply smile, nod, back away slowly, and immediately go play a good game to erase all memory of the conversation.
I've never played it. What's wrong with it?
The first major problem with it is the huge amount of cut scenes that just cut up the action... then you have the time warping mechanic which is pretty much useless, and then for the thirty seconds that you get to play the games between cut scenes, the actual gameplay is just boring as hell. I was so mad that I spent 15 dollars on that game. I should have downloaded the demo first and then bought something worth my money.

But yeah... I agree.
I'm far from "following the masses" as well. Linux user, pescetarian, industrial music, etc. In-fact, I remember watching the movie as a kid and being very disappointed. I didn't really hang out with other kids, so my opinion was my own and still is. I'm not going to bash somebody for liking a movie I don't, but I really just don't like that movie.

Us shmup lovers, on the other hand, can barely tolerate all you casuals, and don't consider any of your "RPGs" or "FPSs" to be REAL video games.

You can't even pronounce "RPG" or "FPS" like you can "Shmup"

Arpuhguh? Fffpiss? Bah!

"Shmup" is far more elegant!

You can just fuck off with that attitude.
To clarify, the people I'm talking about are the kind of people who watch The Nostalgia Critic or other similar reviewers and simply parrot their opinion without ever watching the film or series in question. Yes, people like that do exist and they're more numerous than you think.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

More unforgivable than the 5200 not playing 2600 games is that it didn't play Atari 8-bit games. It was a bit of a stretch to expect it to play 2600 games because it was entirely different hardware, but there was no reason it shouldn't have played Atari 8-bit games. It's the exact same hardware. The Atari 8-bit was already incredibly popular in parts of the world, and atari's stupid decisions with the 5200 cut that entire marketshare out of the 5200's library.

Oh, or people saying "X game sucks because The Angry Video Game Nerd said so in a video, but I haven't played it but I know it sucks because he is the be all, end all authority on video games." I hate this so much. I have so many friends like this, and they call me idiots for forming my own opinion.

AVGN's a character. The whole original premise was just some middle aged guy who never could get over those games that frustrated him as a kid. People really shouldn't take his opinions as gospel, that's not the point of him. Rolfe himself has said in interviews that he doesn't actually hate a lot of those games as much as his character does.
