The horns do have to face outward, though, not inward.

I've seen the horns done inward quite a bit. Never seen anything suggesting that inward is "improper" or anything. Hell I can dig up pics of plenty of important metal bands doing them inward if you really want.

But...

That means we have an opportunity to re-brand what you are doing. What would you like it to represent?

I think all the bands considered to be possible origin points of the symbol within metal did it facing outward, in part because the the middle and ring finger held in by the thumb represent a head and face/snout and the horns project forward from that head. The tucking of the wrist helps reinforce that imagery. It is very bull-like in that early form.

It just doesn't look right or have the right shape done any other way, IMO.

To be totally honest, I see it done facing inward more often than not. There really isn't any sort of standard for how it's actually supposed to be done either way though.

Actually, the entire "backwards" metal sign is pretty funny in itself.
