Will split-screen again become prominent on the PS4?

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

I was reading Side Mission's post about the PS4's Dualshock (which, wow, is really ugly), when I read this;
Some of the features they highlight is the controller's ability to track the positions of the controller for local multiplayer, allowing the PlayStation 4 to adjust split screen orientation if players decide to swap places.
Is this an indication that Sony has decided to put a heavier emphasis on split-screen gameplay? I don't even know what to think. Either way, that's a really nice feature for parties- I can think of more than one occasion in which that would have come in handy for racing games.

I think that's more of a developer initiative. Honestly I don't see it changing much from how it is now.

Same.

I can see it being neat for like the LEGO adventure games, but I dont see splitscreen ever coming back sadly.

I would love to see more local multiplayer. Crossplay with Vita too. Split screen I am not a huge fan of, but its OKAY. All on one screen like beat em ups and platformers would be fun. :)
My B/S/T thread! :)

Jesus. At least it's different. I think it looks cool, and they fixed most of the issues with the DS3. I'm sick of playing with a 15 year old controller with a flawed design that just stuck.

It is kinda ugly, but it also looks a lot comfier than the typical dualshock design so I don't really care.

I don't think it's all that ugly... Plus the grips remind me a bit of the logitech style controllers which are REALLY comfortable.

As far as split screen, I don't see it making a big come-back. I was actually kind of hoping SimulView would pull through, but it looks like it's going the way most of Sony's innovations go...

It isn't much to look at for sure. I'll reserve final judgement for when I eventually hold one though. I don't see split screen making a significant comeback either.
