Wait... Deckmaster wasn't a company. Deckmaster was the "brand" WoTC slapped on their collectible card games early on to make them stand out from the flood that was just beginning, ironically started by MtG.Ack wrote: ...learned to play Magic: The Gathering when Deckmaster was still making the game...
I started playing when Revised had just come out. Sold all my cards for cash to buy a 28.8 modem. Probably shouldn't have. A bunch of my former cards have now turned up on the Reserved list.

Fallen Empires is still the best set of all time.Ack wrote:marurun wrote:Wait... Deckmaster wasn't a company. Though I did start playing early on. I learned the game during its Beta period and began actively collecting when Fallen Empires was released but quit actively collecting around the time of Tempest, which was late 1997.

Geeze, and I thought I started magic early. I think the newest set was Marcadian Masques (Probably butchered the spelling on that). I thought that set was so cool when I was just starting, and eventually found out that is is considered one of the poorer sets of the time.
I have to ask, what makes you enjoy FE more than the other sets of that era? I've only ever viewed those older sets from the aspect of, "Can I use this in a vintage deck", and most of the cards from FE are not too useful now.
I think the Urza sets were my favorite. That could be because I just started learning how to combo, instead of just spam burn and monsters, when I started buying Urza.

Fallen Empires was the first tribal set, and it introduced my favorite creatures: the Thallids. I also thought it had fantastic flavor and made excellent use of flavor text to convey the world. When I started it was Revised and Fallen Empires as the in-print sets, so while I did snag some cards from the previous expansions none of them resonated with me like FE did.

Urza and Fallen Empires were both great, but I think we can all agree that anything after Invasion was shit.

Zendikar has been my favorite limited environment, and Scars block was amazing for bringing back poison counters.o.pwuaioc wrote:Ice Age sets ftw.dunpeal2064 wrote:I have to ask, what makes you enjoy FE more than the other sets of that era?
