Yeah. He's so bad ass he doesn't care that his wife's boyfriend beats him up. He then cuts down trees with a chainsaw, one-handed.Luke wrote:I love the fact he acknowledges his wife has a boyfriend, and that said boyfriend beats him up. Comedy silver.Ack wrote:Ah, Cullman, Alabama.Luke wrote:Wow.

I thought the trailer selling girl was cute for a second, and then I saw her smoking.

Exact same thought here.Luke wrote:I thought the trailer selling girl was cute for a second, and then I saw her smoking.
I love this old commercial that they played for years when I was younger during afternoon cartoons. Pretty catchy actually.
Thunderbolt
Looks like they finally made an updated version. Doesn't have nearly the charm of the original, nor does it use the word dynamolicly.

Nice one Hobie. You *know* a local commercial is a legend when they feel the need to update it.Hobie-wan wrote:Exact same thought here.

The guy is basically Senor Cardgage from Homestar Runner.
Sadly, the best ones from my area don't seem to be on YouTube. :/
I have the urge to get a leg up on the pile....
Re: Local Commercials
I must have seen that on one of those commercial specials the networks used to run a lot of in the 90s.
Speaking of discount tires, back in the 80s before I came to FL, this guy and his Allied Discount Tires caused some sort of minor national news story with his commercials. The owner, Stanley Hanin, got his friend from the shoe store industry, Sam Behr, to stand in front of a green screen with an ad for the business in the background, and he'd get a bit crazy with some of his language, for example, he'd tell how they'd hand torque the lug nuts in this ad but the one ad which got television station feathers ruffled was when Sam was mocking the evangelists of the time who ask for money on TV by saying they had to sell a quantity of tires over the next month (ad here) and as a result Stanley and Sam made it onto the talkshow circuit explaining how the whole thing was just a joke. A video full of interview clips and news stories about the incident can be found here.

Re: Local Commercials
News that a local commercial legend has passed.
Cal Worthington dies at 92
He had a whole mess of car dealerships on the West Coast, and he was one of the first to come up with commercials for them, always introducing himself and his "dog" Spot, which was never a dog, but all sorts of other wild animals like whales, tigers, elephants, and monkeys. He'd always interact with them in unusual ways to the point of nearly getting killed by them. If you look them up on YouTube you'll see all sorts of examples (example here). Anybody who lived and grew up in places like Los Angeles and Seattle may recognize him better than I can.

Yes, he also strapped himself to the top of a biplane and stayed that way in the air in one of his ads.

Re: Local Commercials
I saw that news too. For some reason some of those were shown here when I was little too. I guess he had a dealership here for a while.
