It's because people who play video games are socially maladjusted manchildren.

Actually, two-thirds of my "free money" is spent on the bills and the rent. And since I moved down here, a lot of the remaining cash is pretty much fixing up my room, which was unfurnished and is currently just my stuff (90% still in the moving boxes) and the mattress from the old house.

Don't act like all I do is piss away my money. I actually use what I buy. And I don't buy stupid shit, either. When I bought those two plastic drawers, I began using them as dressers. When I bought a surge protector, it's because I only have two outlets in my room. When I bought my ear buds, I began using them right after I walked out of the store, tossing my broken ones. When I bought my bike lock, I began locking up my bike whenever I'm not on the damn thing. When I buy a day pass for the bus, I always try to get at least three rides out of it (a day pass is $4.50, a single ride is $2, so if I get three rides out of a day pass, I've already save 50 cents per ride), and it comes in handy when my destination's too far on my bike or it's raining.

But when I've been here for about a month now and the only employer (of the 6 or 7 I've applied to) that I've heard back from tells me they're "unable to hire [me]" at the moment, it's not like I have any other options aside from unemployment. Also, last summer, I worked close to SEVENTY HOURS A WEEK! And keep in mind that that's five straight days of going to work at 4 in the morning, knowing that three of those days would find me going in and working a 7-8 hour shift at my other job, which didn't end until 10pm at the latest. And with two afternoons off at one job AND two morning off the other, I pretty much spent a huge bulk of that time catching up on sleep. That's how I got my "free money". It's also how I got pushed into a higher tax bracket and getting more money taken out of my return.

Man, I had a pretty happy childhood with the usual ups and downs. What happened to everyone else? :?

If I remember right, you don't have a car BUT you live in a decent sized city with a cheap public transportation system. There must be more than 6-7 jobs available to apply to, no?

I don't doubt you are frugal and try to be responsible...and I haven't been in your shoes and don't want to suggest I know your plight. BUT, I do want to suggest that maybe there are more jobs available than you are realizing. Try expanding your job search horizons, doing lesser work for lesser pay until you get something better, etc. I would think the stigma of unemployment (and having to listen to lectures like this) would be more than enough incentive to make job searching a full time job...

My childhood so far has been pretty good. Granted, I have no social life or siblings, so I barely see other humans outside of school, but I was never poor or abused or anything. Of course, childhood hasn't ended yet so that could change, but I doubt it.
Insert clever quote here.

My childhood had its ups and downs like I am sure most others have. I choose not to dwell on the negatives however and try to remember the fun things fondly.

Gaming, playing Magic, Battletech, hanging out with friends, sports, riding my bike, swimming, going fishing, going to amusement parks etc etc...

There are some things I miss and wish I could have now, like the free time and carelessness.

I've pretty much gone for practically ANYTHING. But the problem is the PART of Orlando I live in, which is part of what is called Four Corners. It's mostly resorts, hotels, motels, et al, and everything else is what I've been for the most part shooting for.

And the "cheap public transportation system" is flawed. For one, my mom works at Animal Kingdom (she recently finally got her "ears"), and while it only takes a relatively short time to drive to work (16 minutes), it takes her almost an hour and a half to get to work by bus, and of that time, only 7 minutes of that is on the bus. After getting off the bus, she has to walk over 2 miles the rest of the way, totalling 3 miles walking total (0.9 to the stop + 2.4 from where she gets off to the employee entrance). Plus, the buses don't run 24/7, so if I miss the last bus of the night, I'm effed, especially if that's my ride to work. And if I do get to work, when I get off work, what are the guarantees that the buses will be running already? But once we get a car, it'll be a non-issue, since it's easier to get to some places by car than by bus.

So basically, I'm really looking for something I can ride my bike to. And when all I can really put on my resume is bagger and dishwasher, that doesn't help matters, either. That's why I'm trying to get a job at one of the Disney parks. I'm going for a custodial job, since apparently I can't just apply for multiple jobs if I don't get my first choice. My other choices are/were working at one of the shops or working in the costume department. But I also chose custodian since if I get the third shift (the "graveyard shift"), then I get paid a dollar more than working either of the day shifts.

:? : I've yet to be paid for last month and finally figured out the reason for it today: The woman I have to give my invoice to never turned it in. Oh goody.

Keep in mind that I turn it in either the last day of the month, or the first day of the next month (depending on when I go in and where the days fall), so she's had it for over three weeks and just sort of...forgot I guess. I know she signed it, because a couple days after I turned it in I saw it sitting on her desk when I went in to talk to her. And of course she's gone for the rest of the week and won't be back until Monday.

The whole thing is just damn frustrating.

:) : Despite all that, the person who cuts the checks felt very sorry for me and was given permission by the 'money man' to print out my check. I have been assured that I will get last month's check tomorrow......

:? : .....But we'll see how that goes.
